Is the D in your initials one of those hyphenated Der- or Du- surname things?

just a second middle name.

it's our family tradition that the first boy is named after his paternal grandfather. i got the short end of the stick with a first name that's normal in dutch but a girl name in english. my son will be hendrik. at least that one is spelled like it sounds in both languages. my middle names are my dad and my great uncle on his side. so it's jan hendrik derk koopman.

derk is a cool name. i don't care that urban dictionary has bastardized it. it's cool.

i spend 33 years being teased for jan and now 1 post here opens up a whole new world of mockery.

Then it's not really a middle name is it?
It's sort of a post-first, or pre-last.....

I assume it's pronounced "Yahn"? So was Jan Michael Vincent's name really "Yahn" too?

I went to school with a kid named Dirk Matthijssen. He was tall, blonde, and athletic. No one made fun of him.

I never understood the "son of" naming scheme. The surname is not carried down, it seems like it would only work in the days of Adam and Eve.

Ok. I consider myself a pretty tolerant guy when it comes to LGBTQ issues. I'm for gay marriage, cool with people identifying with different genders, cool with trans people. 100% for gay adoption.
But, in the airport today, I saw a guy, about 30, overweight and balding. Had short hair and a full beard. He was wearing blue eye shadow, mascara, pink lipstick, silver painted nails, and his eyebrows were shaped like a woman's. Now if he was transgender why the beard, and no wig, and dressed in man clothes too.
I don't know, I found it kinda creepy. I didn't stare or say anything, but I thought it was odd. Does that make me an asshole? It's not like the guy was in a glam metal band.

Boy George still wears makeup. He's not overweight, tho.

It doesn't make you an asshole. We all have our likes & dislikes

Being member of the LGBT community. That doesn't sound unusual to me, could possibly be a drag queen or a band member? I have seen some stranger stuff, like the assless chaps, bondage suits, twinks and bears which kinda freak me out. They really don't bother me, I rather stay away from those categories.

That shouldn't me us an asshole, like semi said we have our likes and dislikes.

Yeah, he's just not your kind of LGBTQ guy.

Which raises the question, what is your kind of LGBTQ guy?
