GIANT SLOTH HOLES!!!

Regular sloths are cool. Giant sloths are super cool!

Massive caves in southern Brazil are actually ancient ground sloth burrows

Just venting here.

I have a few credit cards that I've acquired within the last year or two, because they offer low interest rates, and/or interest-free balance transfers. This is in addition to the ones I've had for a while. With all my cards, I always sign-up for "paperless communications & billing", which means all my payment reminders and confirmations are via e-mail, and I pay online.

Just about all of these credit card companies send me offers by regular mail, some several times per week. It always seems to pick-up frequency right after I make a payment. Most of the offers are for low-interest-rate credit lines or balance transfers, like the ones I'm already using. Sometimes I get an offer for some ridiculous upgraded card from the same company. Those mailings look like new car brochures.

My point is, I don't want any paper mailings, which is why I went paperless; yet they send me much more mail in a week than I'd get in a month with paper billing - if they eliminated the promotional crap. I've checked-out all of my online account settings and preferences, and there's no way to get this to stop. Even if I paid-off the balances and canceled the cards, I'd still be getting offers mailed to me every day.

It seems that a lot of things are like this. There's probably more "low-calorie" items in the supermarket than ever before, yet people are getting fatter and fatter. Poland Springs convinces people to buy billions of plastic bottles of water every year, then they crow about how their "new" cap uses 5% less plastic.

Maybe I'll go "off the grid".
