This is for all you weiner fans in the audience. A rapper known as Obamanator has released three albums and an EP. His 2021 album Alfred's Gone includes a song called Tippets. Obamanator tells Mr. Tippets, his wood shop teacher, to "put your weiner in the bandsaw, weiner in the handclamp, weiner in the planer, weiner in the jointer, weiner in the miter saw, weiner in the lathe, weiner in the drill press, weiner in the jigsaw, weiner in the table saw...." It goes on and on – but you get the idea. What does Tippets do? You'll just have to listen.

Taking off and flying in any airplane is relatively easy (as I have/had my pilots license I can attest to that). The landing is the most tricky. That model doesn't look too forgiving for a hard landing.

This letter from George Kahn of Culver City appears in today's Los Angeles Times. I've read it five times and I still don't understand it. A nickel costs 14¢ to manufacture so make it a dime. Huh? This moron's ideas are not worth two cents!

"As a banker, I have been waiting for years for the government to stop making pennies. But the true issue is that our money ain't worth what it used to be, so we need a new plan that truly reflects the devaluation of the dollar. Keep the penny, but name it the nickel, as pennies cost 4 cents to manufacture. Make the nickel the dime and make it smaller, since the nickel costs 14 cents to manufacture. Change the dime into the quarter, the quarter into 50 cents and eliminate the paper dollar, also a money loser. Keep the dollar coin. Its long lifespan (estimated at 30 years) compared with the dollar bill (6.6 years) makes it a more cost-effective option. Start paper money with the two-dollar bill if needed or just move on to the five-dollar bill."

It sounds like he had some good thoughts, but got high on mushrooms before writing the letter.

It's true that we still have the same denominations of money that we did when a movie cost 3 cents. And so it makes no sense to have pennies or nickels anymore. Or that damned 9/10 of a cent at the gas pump. But renaming coins is stupid.

Here in the 51st state, we have no pennies. We still have nickels. We have no paper $1 or $2 but have loonies (the $1 coin has a loon on it) and twonies (people have no imagination).

But the use of cash is quite rare these days. Everything is a tap on your phone.

I like paper money; it's easy to carry around. Dollar coins are ungainly.

We should just round to the nearest dime. Ten cents goes along with our decimal system. So it makes sense. But I don't know what to do about using an odd number of quarters.

I think with the right combination of quarters and dimes you can pay any amount to the nickel.

.05 --> Pay .25 get .20 change
.15 --> pay .25 get .10 change
.25 --> pay .25 get 0 change
.35 --> pay .75 get .40 change
.45 --> pay .75 get .30 change
.55 --> pay .75 get .20 change
.65 --> pay .75 get .10 change
.75 --> pay .75 get 0 change
.85 --> pay 1.25 get .40 change
.95 --> pay 1.25 get .30 change

Problem solved.

Frankly, I wish we could tie coinage back to being made of the accurate amount of precious metal it says it's worth. Don't know if it's realistic, but I don't like carrying 6 cents of copper/nickel and calling it a 25 cent quarter.

If it takes .02 to make a penny, why not just change the printing and print it like a nickel and make it worth .05? Eventually the old nickels would be out of circulation and the cheaper ones will be the ones that would be printed at a .03 cent profit.

The problem is coins costing too much, not too little. And what about paper money? It's worth what's printed on it, but it has little inherent value. Unless you use gold leaf.

My son just shared that there's an airplane you can buy, build and fly without a license

I'm pretty sure having a serious cocaine addiction is safer than that.

Who took us off the gold standard? Nixon I think? I know for sure Grant was all about getting the economy stabilized and he wanted hard currency reserves to have the public trust the government after the war. It took like 20+ years for it to happen though. McKinley signed the law in 1900 actually making it real.

(I knew that off the top about Grant, I've read a lot about him. I literally have a canvas picture of him on my wall. I had to look up McKinley and the year he signed the act. I know very little about his presidency.)

Anyway, it seems right to have actual precious metals backing us up. Now it's all theoretical.
