Vacationland
My wife has had a dream of going to Bermuda. After her first cancer treatment was done, we wanted to do a celebration vacation. She was thinking Bermuda, I was thinking Bahamas and somehow we wound up in Barbados. We always laugh about that. But this spring I found a cruise to Bermuda and booked it. I am not sure how I feel about being on a cruise ship post-covid but prior to that it has been something we actually both have been wanting to do. So we went for it. It leaves New York in late May for 5 days. We will either drive to New York and stay at a nice hotel the night before. Or drive to Buffalo and fly from there to New York.
I've been to Bermuda twice, it's great. A nice blend of British and island culture. I haven't cruised there, but I have several friends who do that one all the time. And my sister - who has basically barricaded herself at home for the past few years - just did a Caribbean cruise. So it must be ok.

I thought every day was Hockey Day in Canada?

This is the hockey song. They play it once ever Leafs game of couse.

Did you type that correctly? I'm confused.
This is how it should have read: I got a pretty good deal as my son qualifies as youth (under 25) and my wife qualifies as senior (over 60).

onight, we took my wife to the game against the Manitoba Moose. They are the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets which is my wife's favourite team. The first period was uneventful and then there was the period break. Then the countdown of the break went down to 0:00 and reset to 20:00 for second period. Except there were no officials or players back on the ice. Very unusual. They usually make a big deal of the Marlies coming to the ice at about the 3:00 mark. Then we noticed there were about 12 EMT/firefighters in one of the ailes below a section (which had been cleared) working on someone in a stretcher. We found out later a woman had a cardiac arrest in the stands. They worked on her for abut 20 minutes before transporting her to hospital. After about 5 minutes, the music stopped and they put a note on the board that the game was on hold until further notice. After the lady was removed we expected them to resume play. But it just sort of dragged. They put yellow tape around the section she was in and announced that anyone sitting there to see fan services to get relocated. Then they removed the yellow tape and people continued to sit there. Then the refs came out. One of the rare times people cheered for them. Then they left. Then after 1 hour delay they announced the game would be postponed. So we went home.

We have found from local media the woman is in critical life threatening condition in hospital having suffered from cardiac arrest. I hope she pulls through.

This was the last home game until February. Not sure when this one will be rescheduled.

The lady pulled through. She has posted on social media and let everybody know she is ok. She was surprised but grateful they suspended the game for her. She thanked the EMTs but joked she was upset they tore her Marlies jersey.

The game will continue tonight. My wife will not return. Just my son and I. It will pick up in the second period.

For Christmas, my son and I got my wife a trip to Ottawa. She wants to visit the National Archives. We also got her tickets to see the Winnipeg Jets play the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. This is a Saturday night hockey game. For Canadians this is a big thing. Also this is on Hockey Day in Canada where all 7 Canadian teams are in action and most televised throughout the day. If the game was in Toronto obstructed vision or standing room would have been over $300/ticket. In Ottawa however, the tickets were $30/ticket for wheelchair accessible seats (always more expensive). We are going to see the Jets play the Leafs on Thursday as well and I paid considerably more than $30/ticket for wheelchair seats. Not Saturday night prices however. And yes I checked, the only time prices for Ottawa are higher is when the Toronto Maple Leafs come to town.

And we are going there by train, my wife's favourite form of transportation. It is also business class. I got a pretty good deal as my wife qualifies as youth (under 25) and my wife qualifies as senior (over 60). I would also but as a companion to a wheelchair I am free. KaChing!
I never updated this as far as I can see.

We had a good time. We relied on public transportation 100%. Ottawa has a good system of trains and busses. All fully wheelchair accessible. We only got lost once. They have a bus route 25 which goes both north and south so you need to get on the right one. We didn't.

The hockey game was good. The Winnipeg Jets won which was good for my wife and good for my son and me because Ottawa lost. The Leafs beat the Jets on Thursday.

My wife made it to the archives. 2 blocks from our hotel.

Also we visited one of my college friends over dinner one night.

Our return trip was through a blizzard. This did delay the train as they had to go slower than normal. Also a drift on the track knocked loose an airhose. This triggered the emergency brakes. To fix they had to shovel a whole bunch of snow, turn off main power then climb between the cars and re-attach. We were about 2 hours late but were able to re-book wheeltrans.

So in December my son and I went on a trip to Buffalo to see WWE Smackdown. It was a nice trip. We stayed overnight in St. Catherines and then returned home the next day. The only reason I bring this up is when I was returning (about 5 blocks from my home) some lady in the right lane swerved into me in the left lane. Neither me nor my son were hurt and there was only minor damage. The insurance company had some trouble finding the other party or getting them to respond. So it was today that it made it to the shop and I got a rental car. It's a KIA POS but it has Apple Carplay. I like it. I will miss it when I get my car back. This was the point of this post.
