When Three's Company debuted in March 1977, it was up against the second half-hour of Hawaii Five-O on CBS and the second half-hour of NBC's Best Sellers, a two-hour NBC series featuring serialized installments of four novels: Captains & The Kings, Once An Eagle, Seventh Avenue and The Rhinemann Exchange. In April 1977, the Best Sellers series moved to Monday nights and was replaced on Thursdays with Thursday Night At The Movies. In September 1977, CBS debuted Man From Atlantis (9-10 PM Thursdays) and Rosetti & Ryan (10-11 PM Thursdays).

For me it was the early 80s and I wasn't watching tv at night. I watched it when I got home from school if my friends were busy or the weather was awful. The afternoon lineup was something like Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Three's Company and some others I can't think of. That was WLVI's afternoon/evening shows.

I certainly remember those afternoon syndicated lineups. They threw in all sorts of shows that I hadn't seen when they originally aired. Bonanza, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Mr. Ed, Gilligan's Island, Lost in Space. Now it's news, courtroom judge shows, talk shows, and more news.

This was basically my tweens/early teens (well, more like 1982-1985, not as much 1980 but it's similar)

In the 70s, I watched Match Game and Family Feud at 4 & 4:30. I also caught the Flinstones at noon at lunch. Star Trek on Saturdays along with Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour. I also remember seeing Gilligan's Island and Get Smart I think after 5 at various times. Watched some prime time: MASH, Carol Burnette, Stanford & Son, Bionic Woman, 6 million $ man, MTM, and All In the Family come to mind.

I have more questions. It seems that 2 different episodes of MTM are airing at the same time on different channels. Same for AITF and MASH. What's up with that?

I think people around our age mostly had similar experiences. There was a lunch place near my work office that always had The Price is Right on during the time we were there. But those shows you list were the same for me. And over time, they rotated different ones in.

I also remember WKRP. That came on just as I was discovering music and peaked my interest in radio. I might have actually pursued it if I could actually talk clear enough for a microphone. I can't so it was just a hobby.

Mister Rogers at 5 PM? Two channels showing M*A*S*H at the same time? Two channels showing All In The Family at the same time? Laurel & Hardy and Abbott & Costello at the same time? What the hey?!

Yeah that's odd. I usually stuck to WLVI 56 (Flintstones, Bradys, Laverne, Happy Days, Three's Company). I went to channels 25, 27 or 38 once in a blue moon for other shows, but I had to be pretty bored to do that.

WBZ-Channel 4, Boston's first television station and an NBC affiliate (until 1995, when it switched to CBS) , went on the air at 10 AM June 9, 1948. A test pattern was shown until 6:30 PM when a dedicatory program aired, featuring recorded messages from Mayor James Curley, Massachusetts Governor Robert Bradford, Archbishop Richard Cushing, a rabbi, a priest and the Chamber of Commerce president.

Among the NBC network programs in June 1948 were Juvenile Jury, Texaco Star Theater (which debuted the night before WBZ-TV signed on), You Are An Artist, Musical Merry-Go-Round, Television Playhouse, Television Screen Magazine, Kraft Television Theatre, Stop Me If You've Heard This One, the game show Americana, the boxing program Cavalcade Of Sports, the folk music program America Song and the cooking program In The Kelvinator Kitchen. (Meet The Press aired in November-December 1947 and would return in September 1948.)

Yes, the names of many series were changed when they went into syndication. In many instances, this happened when the first two or three seasons of a series went into syndication while new episodes continued to air. In addition to Happy Days Again and Laverne & Shirley & Company, there were these:

Jeff's Collie (Lassie)
Brave Stallion (Fury)
Badge 714 (Dragnet)
Captured (Gangbusters)
Jet Jackson (Captain Midnight)
Emergency One! (Emergency)
Marshall Dillon (Gunsmoke)
The Ponderosa (Bonanza)
The Raymond Burr Show (Ironside)
The McCoys (The Real McCoys)
Andy Of Mayberry (The Andy Griffith Show)
Sergeant Bilko (The Phil Silvers Show)
Love That Bob! (The Bob Cummings Show)
Carol Burnett & Friends (The Carol Burnett Show)
Robert Young, Family Doctor (Marcus Welby, M.D.)
Jim Rockford, Private Investigator (The Rockford Files)
If You Had A Million (The Millionaire)
University Medical Center (Medical Center)
Adventures In Sherwood Forest (Adventures Of Robin Hood)
Major Adams, Trailmaster (Wagon Train)

In the first Lassie series (1954-57), Lassie belonged to Jeff Miller, played by Tommy Rettig. In the second Lassie series (1957-64), Lassie belonged to Timmy Martin, played by Jon Provost. The first series was syndicated as Jeff's Collie. The second series was syndicated as Timmy & Lassie. And no, contrary to popular belief, Timmy never fell into a well and sent Lassie to get help.
