Things That Nobody Needs

Speaking of two languages, sometimes the translation doesn't quite come through accurately on packaging.

Engrish.com is a classic collection of mistranslations.

Anyone up for some fried crap?

Funny thing is a lot of old movies end with a card title reading…
“The End”

English - The End
French - Fin
Italian - Fine
Swedish - Slut

Slut?!? That’s the Swedish word for “finished”. The first time I saw that word pop up at the end of a Bergman classic movie, I had to laugh.

There was a time when I'd check out that site daily. Funny stuff.

Harold Fairweather made the Guinness Book Of World Records for being the oldest person with a living parent. At age 97, he was still living with his mother, who was 117. He died on April 18, 2017, one day after this story appeared in the New York Post. The mother died five months later.

Every so often, my phone gives me a notification that a bunch of apps are being put into "deep sleep". Of course, it's things that I haven't needed, and don't care about. And yet, these unused apps are collectively annoying me with this notification.

Why do I care? Why do I need to be notified? And what can deep sleep possibly do to make any fucking difference to my phone? Will it reduce power consumption by more than a hundredth of a percent? Why does it even matter?

Am I off-base on this?
