The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York has determined that Donike Gocaj, the woman who fell into an open manhole, died of "scald burns with inhalational thermal injury and blunt force trauma of torso." What is in the sewer system that could cause "scald burns"? Maybe I don't want to know.
