What do you guys think of expanding the date range from 75 to the end of last year, 2024?

IDK, I will have a lot more clear memories if we don't stop at 20 years ago.

Something new and (hopefully) fun.

I went to a random date generator and asked for a date between 1/1/1975 and 12/31/2005.

Here is your calendar date:
Friday, 17 July 1981
It was picked randomly out of 11,323 possible dates between Wednesday, 1 January 1975 and Saturday, 31 December 2005.

What were you probably doing on that day (or any day near it)?

This is your thread Sad, so your opinion is the one that matters most.

I changed the range to between 1.1.75 and 12.31.24.

If Sad disapproves I'll change it back to 75-05.

I have all sorts of data to back this up. On that actual day, I had a midday appointment at the dermatologist, and later, we went shopping in Portsmouth & Newington NH, and then, to the Hannaford in York.

But a week earlier, I played a concert for an outdoor festival in Amesbury, MA. And the next day, we spent a little time at York Harbor beach, and then headed up to Ogunquit for dinner and a walk.

On July 4th, we spent the midday at York Harbor beach, then hung out with some friends. In the evening, I played a concert in Hampton Falls, NH, and later we watched the fireworks from York Beach.

From my iPhone calendar.

It was the Friday before the Victoria Day Long Weekend (known here as the May 2-4). We all were embarking to Pittsburgh that evening. We stayed a the Pittsburgh Drury Inn. The next day would then proceed to Ripley, WV for a day visit then wind up at the Drury Inn in Columbus, OH for a weekend of visiting family. We returned to Toronto on the holiday Monday.

Very nice, but the target date is July 5th, not May 18th.

I don't know how I got the 18th. I should have given May 7th. But that date was boring so ...

2018/07/05

This was a Saturday. We were spending the July 4th week in Columbus visiting family as we did most years. My wife and I would return to Toronto the next day. This particular year my son was staying back in Columbus for a week with his sister. I picked him up the next weekend.

Nothing on my calendar for this date, but I know it was a busy one back to work after the July 4th day off.

A related note, you guys handle this thread however you want, but doing a new date each day is a lot to keep up with.

A lot of the dates for me hold no significant value so I don't say much or skip them. Just because a date is out there doesn't mean it must be discussed. I would prefer the dates not be written in an ambiguous way. Spell out the month or do YYYY/MM/DD.

Whew I've got some catching up to do.....

I was in Grade 10. High school was hell. I hated every moment of it. Even thinking back to this time is painful so I won't.
I had a rought 10th grade, but not hell. Not bad enough to not want to talk about it.
If Sad disapproves I'll change it back to 75-05.
I don't disapprove

Agreed. I was thinking one or two a week.

The Sunday before the 5th, the Mrs and I had lunch with the IRBS' on their way through town. (There should be a photo of us outside a BBQ joint.)
The day of the 5th, I think we had band practice.

I probably took the day off from work.
That was the year. I should have looked back on my calendar.

The only memory I have of this time of my life is my mother opening the front door and seeing snow and sky, nothing else. She could only get the door open about 1/3 of the way and the snow was taller than me.

My first real/serious girlfriend was heading to college an hour away. I was giving her the impression our relationship wasn't serious or exclusive. Then when she told me she had been hanging out with another guy at college, I sent a letter telling her how hurt I was etc etc. The typical dumb young guy bullcrap. She's the one who has CAV (can't have children).

It was also soon after this time I left Shaws Supermarket (cashier, bagger) to work for D'Angelo Subs (sandwich artist... no, just hell no, can't say it seriously, sandwich maker).

I have pretty extensive "diaries" since 2005.
7/5/18 asc (a simple complex) practice with jim & chris. we're up to 8 potential auditioners for vocalist. cori (jim's sister) is up for the summer.

But that's kinda boring......

It was around this time I met my sister-in-law's foster daughter for the first time. Her birth-mother showed up to my in-laws campsite and talked about how she won't do more drugs because getting her daughter back is more important. Long story short, my sister-in-law ended up adopting her. Haven't seen the birth mother since 2018.

My son did a series of summer camps. He did a wall-climbing camp for a week. He did a "jam camp" at the local music school for a week. Then we left him with my in-laws for a couple weeks while he did an engineering camp at UNH. While he was at UNH/in-laws, we upgraded his room from its "little kid" look to "teen" look. Down came the letters of his name and the kiddish art. Up went parkour stuff, video game stuff, etc.

My step-father did his annual July 4th weeklong visit back to New England, staying with his sister and brother, with a stop at my house for steak on the grill and good conversation. He was given a cancer diagnosis in 2022 that he kept a secret from everyone. He thought he could beat it without medical treatment. He passed in 2023. His counter was full of Ivermectin and other "cures".
