Welcome to the 784th edition of Who Am I?, the weekly game where I dish out a daily clue to a subject and you have to guess who or what it is.

Every day, the clues get easier. The winner of this week's game gets a piece of my gratitude.

This week's subject is a GROUP.

CLUE #1: We formed in Chicago.

The Buckinghams

C98, I guessed The Buckinghams since your post was long and as I it would be a fast scan read.

Wolf, I guessed the Buckinghams yesterday. As for today's guess, I will say Earth Wind & Fire, even though I know it's wrong.

Material Issue.
Congratulations, Koop!

This week's subject was the Chicago-based power pop trio Material Issue, best-known for their 1991 album International Pop Overthrow, which featured their biggest hit, "Valerie Loves Me".

The band consisted of lead singer and guitarist Jim Ellison, bassist Ted Ansani, and drummer Mike Zelenko. They formed in 1985 and were eventually signed to Mercury Records. After three albums, the band parted ways with the label.

After recording a cover of the theme song of the 1960s TV series The Banana Splits for a compilation of old Saturday morning TV shows, Ellison took his own life on June 20, 1996 at just 32 from carbon monoxide poisoning. The band disbanded as a result.

New game next week!
