I am guessing Alexander Dannenbaum. He didn't really co-found a radio station but he and William Steppacher bought WELK in 1934 and changed the call letters to WDAS. Good music – but an ugly building.

I want to like and also sad this message but it won't let you do both so just wanted to say that. How old were you bro? I was 24 when Mary Ann kicked the bucket. And she only made it to 61. But she managed to stay alive until I was an adult. So, good job there Mom.
As I've detailed elsewhere, my dad died unexpectedly from undiagnosed cancer in 1985, and my mom died unexpectedly in prep for cardiovascular surgery in 1988. I was 23 and 26, respectively. I was already living in New England when it all happened. My dad was 56, and my mom was 58.

Betty Aberlin
Congratulations, Hectic!

This week's subject was Betty Aberlin, the actress who entertained our pint-sized hearts as children as one of the regulars on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

Born Betty Kay Ageloff December 30, 1942 in New York City, Betty studied art and dance at Bennington College. In 1968, Aberlin made her debut on MRN, mainly appearing on the Make Believe segments as "Lady Aberlin". Aberlin appeared on the show for 33 years until its ending in 2001. The show's star, Fred Rogers, died two years later.

MRN's cancelation did not stop Aberlin. She has appeared in several Kevin Smith films, namely "Dogma", "Red State" and his most-recent, "The 4:30 Movie". She's still quite active at 83.

In 1975, Aberlin co-founded WYEP 91.3 Pittsburgh.

With the death of Joe Negri a few weeks ago (11 days shy of his 100th birthday), Aberlin is one of a handful of MRN regulars still left, along with David Newell (Mr. McFeeley), Francois Clemmons and Chuck Aber.

In 1968, Aberlin had an important discussion with Daniel Tiger about assassination.

New game next week!

Congratulations, Hectic! I never knew about Betty Aberlin's radio connection. Daniel Tiger was voiced by Fred Rogers. He named the tiger after WQED-Channel 13 manager Dorothy Daniel, who gave him the puppet. "Ugga mugga!"

As I've detailed elsewhere

Right after posting I figured you must have. Sorry I forgot.

my dad died unexpectedly from undiagnosed cancer in 1985, and my mom died unexpectedly in prep for cardiovascular surgery in 1988. I was 23 and 26, respectively. I was already living in New England when it all happened. My dad was 56, and my mom was 58.

Parents being that young and so close together and you being that young sucks. I mentioned my mom was sixty but my dad was 11 years later and 91. And he literally died exactly 1 month before his 92nd bday.

I almost lost my dad like a month after mom. He didn't die thanks to my Aunt Sally and Uncle Paul who were still a CNO and Fire Chief at the time. He spent a few weeks with them, while still in mourning, in Melbourne and during that time they realized he was fucked up somehow and forced him to go to the hospital. When he got there the tests showed he was about to have an aortic aneurysm so he went right into surgery (the same day he got to the hospital) and that gave me 11 more years with him. So well done Sally and Paul!

I bet you also forgot that my dad played clarinet.

You remember your dad way different than I do.

Who could ever forget his serenades in the backyard with this beauty??

Was he a BMW guy? Or is that something you became on your own? And that's a pretty freaking specific question right there. So if you've talked about that before, I'm not sorry that I didn't retain it.

He was a Cadillac guy. But his last one was a piece of crap, so he went to an S-class Mercedes. I ended up getting my little Mercedes 190E from the same dealer, right before I moved to New England. And I had about a half-dozen other cars before I got my first BMW.
