@semipenguin Yep, though it does help to have Desmond Child on board helping you write those originals. Just ask Aerosmith, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Jon Bon....

    Good 6
    Ok 7
    Bad 27

Heard a lot of these songs last year. My 2018 comments. My 2017 comments.

39: WHO’S MAKING LOVE – THE BLUES BROTHERS

First time hearing this. The bass line of this song is quite similar to "Another One Bites The Dust". This song originally came out in 1968. I wonder if John Deacon was inspired by this song? Maybe subconsciously?

35: TELL IT LIKE IT IS - HEART

Ok, I'll tell it like it is. This song was a bad idea.

7: EVERY WOMAN IN THE WORLD – AIR SUPPLY

    3: I LOVE A RAINY NIGHT – EDDIE RABBITT

Nina: "I Love A Rainy Night, especially one with lots of carrots."
    Me: "Huh?"

2: THE TIDE IS HIGH - BLONDIE

The song started playing even before Nina's first hint. "I could make it real easy for you [song starts playing], but I won't". WTF?

    #46 Queen "Flash's Theme"

Wasn't in my mp3 collection! Just fixed this.

"Flash! Flash I love you! But we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!"

    #69 Suzi Quatro "Lipstick"

Stolen riff alert! Lifted from Van Morrison's "Gloria". And what a total Joan Jett photocopy too - the image, everything.

    #70 Dire Straits "Skateaway"

I didn't realize it back in the day, but Mark Knopfler is just a more polished Lou Reed.

    #74 Lakeside "Fantastic Voyage"

    Later rapped over by Coolio.

#76 Doobie Brothers "Wynken, Blynken & Nod"

Why Michael McDonald and the boys decided to turn a children's poem into a yacht rock snorefest is beyond me.

    #79 Slave "Watching You"

Snoop & Dre used this for "Gin & Juice":
"Walking down the street, watching ladies go by, watching you."
"Rollin' down the street, smokin' endo, sippin' on gin and juice."

Will never reach the top 40
    #46 Queen "Flash's Theme"
#53 Rita Coolidge "Fool That I Am"
    #54 Elvis Presley "Guitar Man"
    #55 Shalamar "Full Of Fire"
    #56 Peter Allen "Fly Away"
    #59 Teddy Pendergrass "Love TKO"
#66 Glen Campbell "I Don't Want to Know Your Name"
    #68 Aretha Franklin "United Together"
    #69 Suzi Quatro "Lipstick"
    #70 Dire Straits "Skateaway"
    #73 Association "Dreamer"
    #74 Lakeside "Fantastic Voyage"
    #75 Charles Fox "Seasons"
#76 Doobie Brothers "Wynken, Blynken & Nod"
    #79 Slave "Watching You"
    #82 Fleetwood Mac "Fireflies"
#87 Earth Wind & Fire "And Love Goes On"
#88 McGuffy Lane "Long Time Lovin' You"
    #89 Spyro Gyra "Cafe Amore"
#90 Touch "Don't You Know What Love Is"
#94 Queen "Need Your Loving Tonight"
    #96 Rockpile "Teacher Teacher"
#97 Earth Wind & Fire "You"
    #98 Sugarhill Gang "8th Wonder"
    #100 Reddings "Remote Control"

These countdowns have taught me that Earth, Wind & Fire we’re still going strong in the 80s. Not sure that is a good thing.

    Good 21
    Ok 4
    Bad 15

And most of the 'bad' aren't even too bad.

In early '83 I was 12 years old sitting by my step-father's tape deck recording songs so my friends and I could hang out by the rope swing and just hear the music we liked without commercials. Good times.

38: THE CLAPPING SONG – PIA ZADORA

37: I KNEW YOU WHEN – LINDA RONSTADT

    Haven't heard this since '83.

35: FALL IN LOVE WITH ME – EARTH, WIND & FIRE

This further proves what @IdRatherBeSkiing just said. It, however, would be their last top 40 hit.

26: TWILIGHT ZONE – GOLDEN EARRING

Did Mark Goodman say this was their only top 40 hit? If so, that's not right because of "Radar Love".

12: GOODY TWO SHOES – ADAM ANT

Adam Hunter called this Ant's "first and last hit in the US". Wha-wha-what?! "Strip" hit #42, "Room At The Top" hit #17, and "Wonderful" hit #39.

#51 Randy Newman & Paul Simon "The Blues"

Within two seconds of listening to this, ya immediately know it can be nobody other than Randy Newman. Very very distinct style. A little too distinct.

#76 Ric Ocasek "Something To Grab For"

Why release a solo song if it sounds exactly like a Cars song?

    #78 Rachel Sweet "Voo Doo"

Twenty years old in the video, but looks thirteen.

    #87 Felony "The Fanatic"

This sounds like Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Billy Idol, The Cure and Devo had a baby, and it came out mentally challenged.

#91 Utopia "Feet Don't Fail Me Now"

This video is an enormous slice of WTeffingF. It eventually almost becomes a Sesame Street remake of the human centipede. Quite bizarre.

    Won't make the top 40
#51 Randy Newman & Paul Simon "The Blues"
#53 Poco "Shoot for the Moon"
    #54 Don Henley "I Can't Stand Still"
#57 Evelyn Champagne King "Betcha She Don't Love You"
#59 Weather Girls "It's Raining Men"
    #61 Melissa Manchester "Nice Girls"
    #63 Missing Persons "Windows"
#64 John Hall Band "Love Me Again"
#69 Crosby Stills & Nash "Too Much Love to Hide"
    #70 Firefall "Always"
#71 Neil Young "Little Thing Called Love"
    #72 Donald Fagen "New Frontier"
#74 Survivor "The One That Really Matters"
#76 Ric Ocasek "Something To Grab For"

#81 Janet Jackson "Come Give Your Love to Me"
#82 Lanier & Co "After I Cry Tonight"

    #90 Chicago "What You're Missing"
#91 Utopia "Feet Don't Fail Me Now"
    #97 Little Steven "Forever"

A blessing yet we still here this song from time to time on satrad and FM. Why? Burn all remaining copies and put us out of our misery.

    The Weather Girls are awesome.

I never heard the song on the radio. Easy Money was the first time I heard it, and I thought it was a parody song.

    Channel98 Don't yell or hit.

One of the recurring sketches on Fox-TV's 1990-94 comedy series In Living Color was Men On Film, a parody of Siskel & Ebert starring Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier as two very effeminate gay men, Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather. ("Now we come to Dick Tracy." "I love the title!") Their theme song was -- yes -- It's Raining Men.
