I'm surprised that both of these made it this high. The Roth is more of a surprise than Sting.
I dig both songs, but didn't think they got that much play.
#77 David Lee Roth "Stand Up" (peaked at #64)
#84 Sting "Englishman In New York" (peaked at this position)

1980

Won't make the top 40 (incomplete list):
#45 Mac Davis "It's Hard To Be Humble"
#58 Red Rider "White Hot"
#78 B-52s "Rock Lobster"
#80 Tom Petty "Here Comes My Girl"
No surprises for 1988.

For 1980, I thought the Mac Davis one would have peaked in the 30s. Red Rider was bigger here in Canada. How did "Rock Lobster" not chart? It was played a lot at least here.

I found the following on the L.A. Boppers
Funky nicknames!

Vance 'Mad Dog' Tenort (percussion / vocals)
John 'Iron Lips' Ervin (trombone / flute)
Dave 'The Groover' Grover (trumpet / flugelhorn / baritone horn / slide trumpet)
Stan 'Be-Bop' Martin (trumpet / flugelhorn)
Bob 'The Professor' Greve (tenor / soprano / baritone sax / flute / bass clarinet)
Chuck 'The German' Brooke (tenor / alto sax / flute)
Kevin 'Shake Your Booty' Davis (keyboards / vocals / yamaha electric piano)
Ed 'Funky Fingers' Luna (guitar / vocals)
Ed 'Funky Thumbs' Reddick Jnr. (bass / vocals)

It's also #1 on one of @sadchild 's lists!
We won't say which list!!

BTW I recently learned the following about the B-52s and how they chose their name:

Before the band formed, friends Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson would sport beehive wigs and crash parties to get free beer. Later, Keith Strickland had a dream of a band featuring three women in bouffants playing organs and someone in the crowd shouted, “That’s The B-52s!” (B-52 is a slang term for a beehive hairdo).

The B-52s' last chart hit was in 1994. The Tubes' last chart hit was in 1985. KC & The Sunshine Band's last chart hit was in 1983. Why did it take each of these groups so long to finally do a "farewell tour"? To quote from Rick Nelson's 1972 hit GardenParty, "If memories were all I sang, I'd rather drive a truck."

I assume it means they're going to stop touring. There's a million 60s/70s/80s bands that just tour with their old stuff.

I wrote 80son8@siriusxm.com last month about the missing shows. I figured there was nothing to lose.

To recap for this year:

1. L.T.D. "Shine On". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for one week. - 1/31/81
2. Yes "Rhythm of Love". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for one week. - 2/6/88

We missed the chance for the two above.

3. Genesis "Man On the Corner". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for two weeks. - 5/8/82, 5/15/82 (second and third week of May)
4. The Cover Girls "Promise Me". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for one week. - 5/21/88 (third week of May)

5. Barbra Streisand "The Way He Makes Me Feel". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for two weeks. - 12/10/83, 12/17/83

These are coming up again in May and December. Hopefully Mark zeroed in on your post.

There were some weeks where a song was at #40 for two or more weeks, but only one week was aired (based on what I could find on forum). This could increase the number of potentially unaired shows. Hopefully all the #40 peaks can air at least once.
I'm reposting so we can keep an eye on the May #40 peaks. C'mon 1982 and 1988!

They just did '88, so very unlikely they'll do it again in May. If they had just done 1980 like they originally said we might have gotten that '88-er.
That makes sense. I'd be stoked if we can get at least one crossed off the list.

I suspect there are 5 people in the universe that actually care about it (and now I am one of the 5 thanx to you). I doubt its a high priority for them. :)
That's cool! :)

I agree that they probably don't care. It's probably easier to repeat a countdown than break new ground.

I don't think they are actually repeating. I think they are recording new countdowns. I think they are just not caring about the year selection. Once they decide a year they do it without concern for what is done before.
