Heard the same countdown last year at this time

Here are my old comments:
80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

Good 7
Okay 12
Bad 21

40. CHERRY BOMB - JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP

It's an okay song - I like it a little better now knowing that 'Cherry Bomb' is what he is calling the dance club he used to go to as a teen. Makes a little more sense. I no longer think of terrorism when I hear it, like setting off explosives at a teen club.

38. GOT MY MIND SET ON YOU - GEORGE HARRISON

26. BOYS NIGHT OUT - TIMOTHY B. SCHMIDT

More like Timothy Be Schit. This was terrible. Especially the lyrics. Worst sexual innuendo I've heard in a while.

21. COME ON, LET'S GO - LOS LOBOS

I'm trying to remember if Onederland plays 'La Bamba'. If so, then I say 'Dear Onederland....'

11. BAD - MICHAEL JACKSON

7. BRILLIANT DISGUISE - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

After 'Born In The USA', we had to suffer through "Brilliant Disguise", "Tunnel of Love", "One Step Up", "Human Touch", "Streets of Philadelphia", "Secret Garden" and other assorted adult contemporary pop songs. It's as if Delilah asked Bruce to write music for her show for the rest of the decade.

Will never reach the top 40

Yeah I would've thought "Learning To Fly" would've peaked higher than 70. But it did reach #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart, which at least shows how much play it got on rock radio.

That explains it. By 1987 I had switched to rock radio to avoid the whiney houstons and such populating pop radio.

Surprised at all 3. All 3 got plenty of airplay. Triumph was Canadian so probably got more due to CanCon rules.

Won't make the top 40
#87 Steve Carlisle "WKRP In Cincinnati"

Did not know they even released that as a single.

Whole lotta mediocrity this week.

Commented on most of these songs last year. Not the exact same chart, but damn close.
80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

30. RUNNING UP THAT HILL - KATE BUSH

Interesting tidbit about this song: Kate originally named the song "Deal With God" but the label insisted she change it:
"You see, for me it is still called 'Deal With God', that was its title. But we were told that if we kept this title that it would not be played in any of the religious countries, Italy wouldn’t play it, France wouldn’t play it, and Australia wouldn’t play it! Ireland wouldn’t play it, and that generally we might get it blacked purely because it had God in the title."

9. PARTY ALL THE TIME - EDDIE MURPHY

This peaked at #2?? It's kinda fun and I don't mind it once in a blue moon.... but #2?!?!

6. LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME - THE THOMPSON TWINS

Shocked this got so high. I like it, but didn't think it was a smash hit.

#88 Twisted Sister "Leader Of The Pack"

I still haven't forgiven them for this atrocity.

#97 Cheech & Chong "Born In East LA"

Classic!

Alright, then who's President of the United States?
Oh, that's easy, man. That guy that used to be on Death Valley Days, John Wayne

#99 Motley Crue "Home Sweet Home"

I'm shocked this didn't touch the top 40! A peak of 89?

Will never reach the top 40
#43 Wang Chung "To Live And Die In LA"
#51 Kiss "Tears Are Falling"
#65 Talking Heads "And She Was"
#66 John Cafferty "Small Town Girl"
#70 Rush "The Big Money"

Amen.

Indeed.

#99 Motley Crue "Home Sweet Home"

Shocker indeed. It was everywhere 24/7.

#70 Rush "The Big Money"
Always surprised to see Rush in a chart.
I probably listened to that CD once a day for months.
I still want to buy a Steinberger.
