Just back from vacation, that's why I'm so late this week

Good 8
Okay 15
Bad 17

To only have 17 bad on an '82 countdown is pretty good for me.

30. WHEN IT’S OVER - LOVERBOY

Forgot about this one. Not bad.

26. LOVE’S BEEN A LITTLE BIT HARD ON ME – JUICE NEWTON

Funny video for two reasons. The intended humor of the continued accidents. And the unintended humor of the fashion.

23. FANTASY – ALDO NOVA

Classic

16. ROSANNA - TOTO

I'd like this song more if it didn't have that "Been twenty years..." part. That kinda kills it for me.

9. DID IT IN A MINUTE – DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES

Was a huge haulin' oats fan at this time, but this song never caught on for me. But I will say hearing it on the VJ 40 over time is working. I kinda dig it now.

5. THE OTHER WOMAN – RAY PARKER JR.

Catchy groove, but aside from Ghostbusters it seems like this guy's always singing about cheating.

#50 Bertie Higgins "Just Another Day In Paradise"

Peaked at #46. One hit wonder?

#62 Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like"

Classic. Especially for the lyrics.

#85 Bow Wow Wow "I Want Candy"

Classic.

#92 Police "Secret Journey"

Great song.

Will never reach the top 40
#47 Richard Dimples Fields "If It Ain't One Thing It's Another"
#49 Rod Stewart "How Long"
#50 Bertie Higgins "Just Another Day In Paradise"
#62 Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like"
#73 Sammy Hagar "Piece Of My Heart"
#77 Greg Khin "Happy Man"
#82 Quarterflash "Right Kind Of Love"
#83 Rick James "Dance Wit' Me - Part 1"
#85 Bow Wow Wow "I Want Candy"
#89 David Bowie "Cat People"
#92 Police "Secret Journey"

@HecticArt Thanks! Yeah went to Florida. Started at Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs). Then visited my Aunt, then Cousin, then Step-father, then Father. Twas a big west coast tour, they all moved to the west side of Florida over the last 10 years. Clearwater Beach was beautiful! Attached is a pic of me eating my son's head at the beach.

#85 Bow Wow Wow "I Want Candy"

Surprised both of these didn't chart higher. I dislike the Waitresses song but given the amount of play it still gets I would have expected top 20. If not even top 40 why am I still hearing it?

@IdRatherBeSkiing Agreed. I turned 12 that year and knew both of those songs, and back in those days I generally didn't know a song unless it at least hit the top 30. It was before I started listening to hard rock and seeking out new music, I just knew what I was exposed to. So I was surprised they didn't chart higher.

#62 Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like" PEAK #62
#85 Bow Wow Wow "I Want Candy" PEAK #62 ALSO

Good 9
Okay 10
Bad 21

Heard this exact same countdown last year. My old comments are here

31. CULT OF PERSONALITY - LIVING COLOUR

This same mistake was made last year when the list was posted here. #31 is Madonna "Like A Prayer". "Cult" is #50 this week.

27. VOICES OF BABYLON - THE OUTFIELD

We were talking about these guys last year:

I liked all of these Outfield singles back in the day as they came out.

1985 "Say It Isn't So"
1986 "Your Love"
1986 "All the Love in the World"
1989 "Voices of Babylon"
1990 "For You"
1992 "Closer to Me"

Everything from their second album 'Bangin' (1987) was just awful.

15. BABY DON'T FORGET MY NUMBER - MILLI VANILLI

Wonder if anyone has ever done a BaBaBooey parody with this.

Ba-bababa, ba-bababa baby booey. Don't forget my _________ <- (insert clever Stern reference)

10. CLOSE MY EYES FOREVER - LITA FORD & OZZY OSBOURNE

Covered five years ago by Disturbed frontman Dave Draiman (in his side project Device) with Lzzy Hale doing Lita's parts.

#56 Cure "Fascination Street"
#65 Queen "I Want It All"
#66 New Order "Round & Round"
#69 Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians "Circle"
#85 Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock "Joy And Pain"
#87 XTC "The Mayor Of Simpleton"
#90 Replacements "I'll Be You"
#95 Bulletboys "For The Love Of Money"

Loved all of these back then and still dig 'em all. It was around '89 I started listening mostly to stuff that didn't quite hit the top 40, but wasn't obsCURE either. MTV helped (Hard 60, Headbanger's Ball, 120 Minutes, YO MTV Raps, etc). So did a couple friends of mine who widened my listening spectrum.

Will never reach the top 40
#56 Cure "Fascination Street"

Heard most of these 2 years ago (one week off). Old comments here

They missed the intro to the #1 song this week. They went straight from #2 to #1 not even a sweeper.

Yeah it was all screwed up. The wrong VJ name showed up most of the time. Nina did her "guess the song" on #4, and then no talk-up for #3 or #1. Bizarre.

Good 10
Okay 10
Bad 20

40. MUSIC TIME - STYX

WTF? I'd have left the band too after this!

39. DON'T WALK AWAY - RICK SPRINGFIELD

Long-forgotten! Haven't missed it, but nostalgia.

30. LOVE WILL SHOW US HOW - CHRISTINE MCVIE

The video's a good laugh, with the spaceship landing on the piano at the end

22. STAY THE NIGHT - CHICAGO

Cetera's vocals on the line "We're gonna have a very good time!" right before the solo are weird.

21. THE LONGEST TIME - BILLY JOEL

It's good, but damn it goes on for... the longest time.

8. BREAKDANCE - IRENE CARA

Terrible. Is she trying to rap?

#62 Psychedelic Furs "The Ghost In You"

Great acoustic cover of this by Counting Crows as the b-side to "Round Here", and the soundtrack to Clueless

Won't make the top 40
#48 Yarbrough & Peoples "Don't Waste Your Time"
#56 Latoya Jackson "Heart Don't Lie"
#62 Psychedelic Furs "The Ghost In You"
#66 Queen "I Want To Break Free"
#69 Bon Jovi "She Don't Know Me"
#74 Kim Carnes "I Pretend"
#81 Dan Fogelberg "Believe"
#82 Def Leppard "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" (Remix)
#84 Cameo "She's Strange"
#86 Big Country "Wonderland"
#88 Newcleus "Jam On It"
#92 INXS "Original Sin"
#99 Weird Al "King Of Suede"

Jeff Beck!

26. MAGIC - THE CARS

They again messed up the production of this. The opening there is about 1 minute after their cheezy opening with the count with some obsure background music before Goodman comes on and welcomes you to the countdown and stats talking about the 40th song. I am wondering if they have new editors.

I can't believe we listened to the Stars On 45 back in 1981.

I'm glad the Medley fad only lasted a year or so. What were we thinking?

Also Mark Goodman basically told the same story both before and after the Smokey Robinson song at #4. Strange production indeed.
