Here's my two cents for the week:
38: THE BELLE OF ST. MARK – SHEILA E.
Good to see she had more than one song make the 40.
36: WHAT ABOUT ME – KENNY ROGERS WITH KIM CARNES AND JAMES INGRAM
Calling Beavis!!!
35: (PRIDE) IN THE NAME OF LOVE – U2
Their first 40 appearance.
33: JAMIE – RAY PARKER, JR.
Weak follow-up to Ghostbusters.
32: STRANGER IN TOWN - TOTO
I didn't remember this one, but not bad.
30: CENTIPEDE – REBBIE JACKSON
I cast my vote for one the strangest videos out there. The video and the song don't have much in common.
26: WE ARE THE YOUNG – DAN HARTMAN
Underrated. He was a part of the Edgar Winter Group before venturing out on his own.
25: I JUST CALLED TO SAY I LOVE YOU – STEVIE WONDER
May I request a double Beavis?
22: DO WHAT YOU DO – JERMAINE JACKSON
The video featured David Bowie's wife, Iman.
19: CARIBBEAN QUEEN (NO MORE LOVE ON THE RUN) – BILLY OCEAN
There were two other versions based on geographic location (European Queen (No More Love on the Run) and African Queen (No More Love On the Run).
17: IT AIN’T ENOUGH – COREY HART
His album was produced by Jon Astley who we chatted about a few weeks ago.
12: BETTER BE GOOD TO ME – TINA TURNER
I discovered this was a remake. Actually, several of her hits were remakes of other artist's songs.
6: NO MORE LONELY NIGHTS – PAUL McCARTNEY
The video for this was cool, but I never saw the movie Give My Regards to Broadstreet.
3: I FEEL FOR YOU – CHAKA KHAN
This may have been the first record to feature a rapper as a special guest.
Will never make the top 40
#46 Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Two Tribes"
@sadchild - I agree. This should have definitely been in the 40. Welcome to the Pleasuredome was a great track too.
#59 Rick Springfield "Taxi Dancing"
This one is interesting because it features Randy Crawford on vocals. She had more success overseas and on the R&B chart. She won the Best New Artist at the 1982 BRIT awards too.
#69 Fixx "Sunshine in the Shade"
I didn't remember this one so I found it on YouTube. Really good stuff!
#76 Shalamar "Amnesia"
Shalamar (post line-up changes) were on their last leg at this point.
#85 Dazz Band "Let It All Blow"
They were known for making funky tracks.
#87 Melissa Manchester "Thief Of Hearts"
This was from the soundtrack of a movie with the same name. I remember the previews for the movie.
#94 Van Halen "Hot For Teacher"
The video was in heavy rotation which should have helped it reach the 40.
#99 Barbra Streisand "Left In The Dark"
This is another Jim Steinman creation.
