Adventures In Koopland

I'm really surprised at how easy it was to get hired. Between my record and not being in the job market for about a decade I was all worried about an extended period of unemployment. I figured out that I could, with cutbacks, make it to the end of the year before I'd start to miss payments on various important bills. I told myself that if football season started and I wasn't employed it would be time to really worry/panic. Never did I think I'd find a new job in a week. In fact I thought about maybe taking this week off and not doing anything. Boy am I glad I didn't do that. I'm surprised, happy and relieved at how this worked out. This is a good day.

Awesome!

Congratulations Koop!

What Evil said!

Go hang out at Publix with a cardboard sign for the next two weeks. You've earned it.

I was bored today. I'm used to doing doubles on Saturdays. I got a bit stir-crazy and decided to drive to my new work to see how long it would take. Google says 24 mins. but with moderate traffic and driving somewhat slow it took me 30. Now I'll know exactly where to go. As a bonus to my little excursion, I found a WaWa near my new job!!! I will be going there all the time now! The only other one in the area I knew about was up around West Palm Beach and that's like 30 miles from me. I haven't had a WaWa hoagie since I lived in Philly.

I also did a bit of financial planning and for the most part it seems like everything will be fine. I'll have a little less money to spend on dumb stuff but I won't have to stop all together. If I cut back a bit in that one area, everything else will go on as normal. Also, my financial planning didn't involve health/dental. So that's kind of a big deal that I will have to figure out sooner or later.

I'm ready to start the new job. 9 days to go.

It's kind of an embarrassing feeling, but I'm starting to get nervous about the new job. I know it's nothing too important but still, I haven't had a first day in around a decade. Today I went out and bought a bunch of "business casual" clothing. I've been wearing a uniform for most of my adult work life and I never buy any clothes that aren't super casual. I have a suit, a few pairs of khakis and button down shirts and that's about it. So today I got a few more pairs of pants and shirts. While I was out buying the stuff I got a headache and I think it was due to being stressed about the job. Of course I've been reading reviews of the company and people say it's not the best place to work but I checked out the reviews of my previous gig and they said the same negative things. I loved that job so the reviews can't be trusted. I'm ready to get day 1 over with. I'm very interested to see how it goes.

I'll be working again in 6 days.

Remember when I said I was getting my a/c fixed and I was happy that it didn't cost too much? Well since then I've been back and forth from the shop 3 times and the a/c probably still isn't fixed. He only made me pay twice though. At first (after hours of waiting around to find the leak) he thought it was just an O ring. Well a week later all the freon drained out and I had no a/c again. Then he fiddled around with it for a bit, refilled the freon and sent me on my way with no charge...annnnnnd it all drained out in another week. Yesterday we discovered that the pipe is cracked and pretty much unfixable. Ford doesn't make the part anymore because the car is pretty old. This time he told me up front what he was going to try was more or less a toss up as to it working or not. He put some epoxy on the crack and also pumped in some a/c fixing glue stuff that is supposed to work from the inside out. I got that done yesterday and I'll know in a few days if it all drains out again. If it does I have a problem. I'd need to go somewhere to get the pipe welded or soldered shut. He didn't even know where to recommend me. At this point I'm thinking about getting a new car. We'll see what happens.

All in all though, he was a good guy. He was very open with the process and was accommodating with the whole interlock thing. At one point he needed the car running and boosted up on one of those lift things mechanics have and he had me sit in the car while it was like 6 feet in the air so I wouldn't miss one of the interlock blows. That was kinda fun.

Why buy a new car? In Phoenix, there are quite a few pick apart places. It a giant boneyard for used car parts, if the place has the same or similar model you have. You simply pull out the car part and pay for it pretty cheap and get that mechanic to install that used piece. I bet there some pick a part near you?

Wait what happened to the van?

All of this is about the van. It's an 03 Ford Windstar. 15 years sounds old but it only has 49k miles on it. I do still want to make it into a camper so I don't want to get rid of it. I will look into Wolf's idea.

Remind me why a single guy needs a 90's soccer mom vehicle? In the late 90's, when Mrs. Scotch was doing finance for a Ford dealership, we had one of those. We also had 4 daughters/stepdaughters, 2 dogs, and took it camping every year.

I use to own a Ford Escape and after a while, I was going to fit it for camping. I was going to use a similar layout below.

But an old friend told me, "Oh you should hook up a tent to it look something like this" which I wasn't fond of.

Yea it would be more room, but I don't need a lot of room. If I wanted to go somewhere, I would have to unhook everything. I rather pull off to a side of a road, parking lot or somewhere and camp out in my car.

Hopefully sometime end of the year I will either get a used or new SUV when things work out for me finally. Plus I'm building up my finance and credit.
