Adventures In Koopland

If management has no policy against dating a co-worker, you have every right to go out with this woman but I would not recommend doing so. You both would be gossiped about, other female co-workers might become jealous, and if you and this woman ever have a huge argument and break up, you'll continue to see each other at work and you both will feel uncomfortable and your job performance might suffer. And what would happen if the woman, or another co-worker, decided to claim sexual harassment?

Send $2 for a copy of my new pamphlet, Negative Nancy's Guide To Dating. :D

I agree with 98. Check the company policy. Even if not outlawed, be very discreet.
Best case is they'd move her to a different department.

That's exactly what she said (but without the curse) when we were talking in a group on her like 3rd day...Yet here we are.
But don’t do it. If you have more power than her, even if you can’t fire her, it’s f-ed up.

If you go out and she gets promoted, other people will complain. She could even come back and say it's because you promised her the promotion for a little naughty naughty.
If you go out and she doesn't get promoted, she'll complain that it's because she wouldn't do do the naughty naughty.
Even if she's cool, avoid it.
Don't dip your pen in the company ink.

Yup, that's kinda what I expected you guys to say.

I'm going to ignore it and pretend you all gave me the thumbs up, but seriously, thanks.

In my company, such a situation would be resolved by one of the people changing departments. One cannot date a co-worker in your department or any person in a supervisor position to you (all the way up the chain) or which you are a supervisor (all the way down the chain). The CEO needs to get his dates outside the company. This policy is for a reason. You are playing with fire. And being fired is a possible result.

This.

Handbook update time!

I went through the thing pretty carefully and while there is a whole lot about sexual harassment there is nothing about dating coworkers or supervisors dating employees.

We have already had 2 coworkers date in my department, and it's a small department...only 9 people so I'm pretty sure everyone including the account manager (aka the big boss) knew about it.

Meme, Hectic and Idrather...You all make very solid points. It's def. what I was expecting to hear but not what I was hoping to hear. Like I said before I do agree with you all but I'm probably not going to take the advice. We'll see how this all shakes out, who knows maybe nothing comes of it, but if something does it might get interesting.

If it looks like something might develop, make sure you have a conversation with her about the complications that could happen at work. You don't want work to get weird. You can't play favorites. You can't have people thinking that you are.

Don't take your pants off before you have that conversation. (I'd say wait at least at least 24 hours before you do that.)
Don't take your pants off at work.
Don't use company time, email, or resources for anything that has to do with the relationship.

If you move forward with this, make sure your resume is up to date and you have checked the help wanted ads.
Just sayin....
