With today being D Day, I went down a rabbit hole and found out that Theodore Roosevelt Jr was the oldest, and highest ranking officer to land at Normandy. After doing some searching, I found out that the Roosevelt family were descended from Claes Maartenszen van Rosenvelt. A Dutch farmer who immigrated to the colonies in the 17th century.

This video is very interesting …

I'm heading out on my first road trip in the new car tomorrow after work. Disney trips don't count since I go so often and it's only 150 miles from me. A quick 850 miles to Bristol Tennessee, right on the Virginia border apparently. Pam is there for a few weeks and I decided it would be romantic of me to go see her for a couple days. I'm taking a 3 day weekend so I should have like 36 hours up there. I'm going to try to do it all in one shot but it's 11.5 hours at best each way so I may find a motel on the side of 95 somewhere in Georgia or wherever.

Getting out of Florida is almost half the trip. And all but like 15 miles are on 2 roads. It's I95 and I26 and then I'm there. It'll be fun to do a long drive in the new car. I've been meaning to start the Red Rising book series forever and so I think I'll listen to the audio book. Apparently that alone is 15 hours.

We'll see how this goes. I think it'll be fun.

Does Pam know that you've decided to go visit her on vacation?
:redalert:

It gives "Hi Pam!" a whole new creepy meaning...... :wavey:

Hahah, yea she knows I'm coming.

I made it like 10 hours. Had to call it and got a room at a Days Inn off I26 in some random town called Newberry, SC. Did 640 miles. Not bad considering I put in a full day at work before heading out.

Bristol used to have a production facility for the company I've been with for 40 years. It's part of the tri-cities of Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport. Across the border is Bristol VA. It's also home to Bristol Motor Speedway, the shortest oval track in NASCAR, at 1/2 mile. Just thought you'd like to know.

The Bristol night race is in two months. It’s a great track. Martinsville also has a great 1/2 mile track

Made it home. Left Tn at 7am and just got home like an hour ago. With all my stops it took 12:47. About an hour quicker than the way there (minus the stop for the night at Days Inn).

Tennessee is so pretty. I want to move there. I could totally become a mountain man and go to Dollywood all the time and do Disney like once or twice a year in the winter. The Blue Ridge Mountains are really nice. This was a trail right by my motel where I was yesterday. Got some reading done on a bench then walked around for a bit.

The Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. There's a song for that.
Here is another featuring said moutains from their neighbour state.

In case you are wondering there is one part of West Virginia where this song is 100% true, It is right across from the WV/Virginia/Maryland border. My wife and I went there as a part of a road trip in 2019.

I've been saying for months I need to get back into golf and today I took the plunge. Went to the PGA store and got a starter set of clubs then took them to the range.

They are these:

Then I found a range near me to hit a few balls. Turns out I'm nowhere near as bad as I was anticipating. I used to play A TON...I was on my highschool team and then after that belonged to a local club in Abington PA and would go all the time...But all that was before my move to FL so I haven't really played at all since 2005. I may have gone to a range once or twice since then but I haven't played a course since my Philly days. Anyway, I can still hit the ball pretty straight so I'm off to a good start.

I'm tempted to play a round tomorrow at a local public course but idk, I should probably hit the range a few more times.

You make fun that I watch soccer. You are into golf? :laughcry:

Some people say it's a good game to play. Seriously all you do is walk on a course and hit a ball. Plus if you attend an PGA game, you have to be so quite. Fuck that! I rather do this for fun.

You can't talk crap how boring soccer is, your local club Inter Miami with so called the goat Messi. Which he currently playing away on international duty. They got killed by the FCC aka FC Cincinnati 6 -1. :laughcry: I was watching that game and loving it, that Miami was getting creamed.
