Adventures In Koopland

The whole family will be here tomorrow. My dad, me, 2 aunts and 1 uncle that are made up of my mom's 2 sisters and her younger sister's husband. It's nice how my aunts are still very involved with my dad, even more so now than when my mom was alive. I have a small family these days. There are a few cousins in both Philly and The Netherlands but I never really talk to them so they don't count. We will be going out to eat for my dad's 90th at the Koopman family's favorite Mexican joint. It's a inexpensive hole in the wall down by the beach but it has become a tradition that we go there for all family occasions that take place in Boca. I have a slew of 6 gifts for the old man. I plan on giving him 2 tomorrow (a bird feeder that attaches to the window with suction cups and a book that summarizes all the major news stories of 1927) when the fam is here and then the rest (another book titled 1491, a home weather station, a light that's in the shape of the moon and a bunch of office supplies) on Sunday, his actual birthday. I bought a big ass, 6 x 4 foot banner and a bunch of puffy decoration things that I plan on hanging in his condo after he goes to sleep tomorrow night. Lastly, I plan on cooking him a nice dinner of his favorite foods on Sunday. It should be a nice weekend for everyone.

Well it turned out exactly like I talked about above. Very nice afternoon. He got lots of gifts and both a cake and pie, one from each aunt. We did the tradition of singing happy birthday in both English and Dutch and had some pleasant conversation.

On the down side my one aunt stole my banner thunder! Freaking woman walks into his apartment and immediately hangs a happy birthday banner. I was waiting to put mine up until his actual birthday tomorrow. I now have banner envy. I'm going to have to move it to another spot tonight and put my bigger, better one up in its place.

Today will be my final day of community service! I will be getting it done 3.5 months ahead of schedule! The woman I have done all my hours for is very nice and has been generous with the timesheet. I am happy I found her. I'm going to take her out to lunch as a thank you and I also bought her a box of Whitman's. I will still need to get a notarized letter from her and go back to the courthouse to make it official but this will be the last day of physical labor.

I'm getting the crane type wheelchair lift taken out of my dad's van tomorrow. I will also be ditching all the back seats at the same time. The place said it will cost $98 to remove the lift. I tried to take it out myself and that's not happening. This is my first step towards my minivan to camper van conversion. #VanLife!

I'd keep the lift; perfect for picking-up girls :brow:

$98 is cheap.

There is a chance it could be $196. They said the uninstallation is all labor and they charge $98 per hour for that. Hopefully they get it out in like 30 mins because I expect if it winds up taking 61 minutes they will charge for the full second hour. They said it would probably only be an hour or less so I guess I'll see what happens.
