Adventures In Koopland

Did a little end of the year financial planning/2017 review this evening and I had to laugh at the fact that I spent significantly more on my cat's healthcare this year than I did on my own. I have very reasonable health and dental plans. I went to the dentist once in 2017 and didn't go to the doctor at all. After crunching the numbers it turns out Athena the cat's healthcare costs were 43% more than mine.

My employer got bought. Our new owners offer pet health insurance.

Most years I spend nothing at the doctor, but last year my face exploded and this year I had to have an MRI for my broken shoulder.

Today is the day I am officially done with probation!

I had my last meeting with the PO back on Jan. 11 and she told me she could close the case a couple weeks early on the 19th but it wouldn't be official until today. Glad to have this behind me now. It was an interesting year of jail, community service (that turned out to be doing a woman's household chores), going to a bunch of long boring classes and paying a shitton of money.

Like I said before the money part way by far the worst. All the other stuff turned out to be way less annoying or scary than I anticipated going in. The one good thing that came from all this was that it turned me into a pedal hoofed biking fiend. What started out of necessity turned into an activity I enjoy and will continue with for the foreseeable future.

Once again: I'm delighted this is now finally, completely over!

Remember this???

Poor little Athena is all drugged up and lethargic now that she is back home. I have to give her a liquid painkiller every 12 hours. She barely eats and I haven't seen her drink all day. I may need to squirt some water in her mouth if this keeps up.

She looks so pathetic:

They told me to take pics of her abscess and send it to them if it gets worse. They also said I should be able to see improvement in 3 or 4 days. An anal gland abscess is freaking gross. It looks like a small bullet wound. I feel so bad for the little kitty. It's no wonder she was acting all weird and not using the box, it must be so painful and even worse if cat litter gets in it.

If ya want a treat check out these sweet, sweet abscess pics:

Cause I sure as F do. IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN!!!

She has been acting weird for a day or so, not using the cat box and now today I caught her licking the area non stop. I took her right to the vet and I won't know for sure until they call me to pick her up but we all think it's the same thing.

At least this time I knew what it was right away and she hasn't stopped pooping so it will be a much cheaper bill. They quoted me at around $280 and somehow I have been trained by these vets to see a $300 bill and be happy. Last time it was a smidge over a grand so I'll take $280. Now I need to remember to ask the vet how to prevent this in the future cause it's super annoying for everyone involved.

One of our cats got lymphoma. We figured he was doomed, but they said try chemo. That was a couple of months ago and he's doing pretty good. Sometimes the chemo upsets his stomach and he stops eating, so we have to skip some doses, but other than that he's back to normal. Also, the medicine isn't that expensive. $50/month I think. The vet bills were pretty high. He had to have a biopsy.

We spent about $1500 on our dog last fall. They wanted to keep him in hospital for only $5000/night. We elected home care. He is fine again but pets are not cheap. Makes one appreciate universal health care.

It was $278. The vet told me that anal glad abscesses in cats are not very common so there isn't too much research into it. She said there is a bunch of scar tissue from the last time so it makes it hard to drain naturally and it may happen again. If it happens again it would probably be best to get her surgery to remove the glad. She said there is a possibility it wont happen again but it could really go either way. I am not looking forward to the surgery bill. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

On the bright side I never read the back of my credit card bill and last month I realized I have $150 in cash rewards coming to me. I will use that on this month's bill so the vet visit will fell like it was only $128. That's not so bad I guess.

At least Athena is better now. In a few days she should be completely back to normal.

Rereading my post I said "anal glad" at least twice. Ha! Misspelling "gland" is going to drive me crazy now.

Welp, I'm going to get fired. I knew it would happen eventually and it's nobody's fault but my own so I can't be too angry about it. It's a real bummer and freaking scary.

Just got a branch wide memo that we are all going to get fingerprinted for some new security screening. Once I get printed my DUI will pop right up. I didn't tell the company about the arrest all they way back in 2013 and I also didn't tell them about my little stint in the pokey last year. I took 10 vacation days and spent 8 of them in the Palm Beach County government hotel.

The memo didn't say when the screenings will start, just that we will all have to go to some office or lab or whatever to get it done sometime in the not too distant future. So this could go down next week or in 6 months, I have no idea.

Shit man, I've been at this gig since 2008 so it will suck to lose it. Guess I need to start getting my resume together. Although that might be a problem since I doubt a place I've lied to by omission for the past 5 years will be all that willing to give me a glowing reference.

Fuck.

Sorry to hear about that man, I know what you mean by possibly losing a job. I'm going through a lot of crap right now, which I may post about it soon.

But then again, it depends what type of job you do. Maybe the background check won't be that bad, they can still keep you around. As long you work hard, didn't give the company any problems and was never late.

Try and stay positive and focus! If you need a urine sample, mine is clean.
