Future: I heard his song "Mask Off" years ago but didn't like it. Don't think I've heard the other (bullshit) 199 chart entries.

Lil Baby: Ed Sheeran released several versions of his song 2Step. I didn't like the one featuring Lil Baby. The one with Aarman Malik was the one I liked best. I don't think I've heard anything else from him.

Travis Scott: I don't recognize a single song title of his. Not even his four (broken) chart-toppers.

If local bands can manipulate the algorithms to get noticed, I'm sure the big labels are manipulating the stats to get on the Hot 100

From a band's fan group on Facebook:

Love [band]? Want more people to experience them? You have the power! Join in the movement to get their new release into the algorithms on music streaming platforms!
All it takes is playing “[song]” on repeat on whatever music streaming platforms you use. The more we play it, the more the platform will suggest it and play it for people. It’s that simple!
Some ways to do it:
~Play it on an Alexa device (when you leave home or in a room you’re not in)
~Play it on your phone or computer all night with volume off
Let’s do this!!

I posted this elsewhere to comment on the horrible term "Swiftonomics". But I'm posting here too to comment on how stupid it is that one small thing like this can send a 20 year old song immediately to #1. Broken charts!

Viral Taylor Swift video sends The Darkness’ ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ to Number 1

While attending the US Open Women’s Final in New York on Sunday (September 8), the singer was seen dancing and singing along to the 2003 track, inadvertently prompting a new wave of affection for the song.

In another example of what’s been dubbed “Swiftonomics” – meaning the enduring financial and cultural hold of the ‘You Belong With Me’ singer – the song promptly reached Number One on the iTunes Rock Chart in America and shot up various other charts worldwide, over 20 years after its original release.

Per Variety, streams of ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ spiked by nearly 70 per cent on Spotify yesterday (September 9), with streams of the Darkness rising by nearly 60 per cent globally.

I Believe In A Thing Called Love will likely debut on next week's Hot 100. It first appeared on a three-song EP in 2002 and was released as a single in 2003. It debuted at #2 on the September 27 2003 UK Singles chart. That is as high as it got. It couldn't dethrone the Black Eyed Peas' Where Is The Love. In the United States, it got to #119 on the Bubbling Under chart.

Crazy!
The first one is hypnotic.
The second one causes anxiety.
It's not possible to pause the video fast enough to see what some of those debut songs are before they are off the bottom of the screen.

And great.....now I want sushi.

NPR 's Morning Edition today aired a story by music reporter Stephen Thompson about the broken Billboard chart. Of course he didn't call it "broken." Shaboozey's A Bar Song (Tipsy) has been number one on the Hot 100 for ten weeks. (It was number one on the country chart for seven weeks.) Since the debut of the Hot 100 chart in August 1958, A Bar Song is the 45th song to be number one for at least ten weeks. Forty-three of those songs have been since 1992. In 2005, the Hot 100 began incorporating digital downloads from iTunes, Musicmatch, Rhaposdy and other sites. In 2007, the Hot 100 began incorporating data from Spotify and other streaming media and on-demand services. Other than his comment about the impact of streaming, which can enable every song on a new CD to debut on the Hot 100 all at once, most of what Thompson said on the program is in this article:

Shaboozey's hit A Bar Song (Tipsy) is no. 1 again and joins an elite club

It sounds familiar to me too – but I spell my name with a "v," not a "ph." I know everyone is wondering what was the first song to be number one for ten weeks. It was The Laughing Song by George Washington Johnson – that name sounds familiar too! – recorded on a wax cylinder for Columbia Records in spring of 1890. This was number one for ten weeks in April-May-June 1891 and was the best-selling wax cylinder of the 1890s. Johnson, a former slave, is considered to be the recording industry's first widely known star. He recorded a new version of The Laughing Song for the Gram-o-Phone label in early 1901. The sheet music credits him as the writer but many music historians doubt that he wrote the song.

I don't know why Alphaville's 80s song is suddenly trending on TikTok. After peaking at #65 in 1984, is it set to break into the top 40 on the Hot 100 40 years later? Stay tuned to Broken Chart...

It has the distinction of being the only good song in the top 10 this week regardless of the origin.

Probably was on a show or movie recently.

Alphaville's FOREVER! Best Of 40 Years will be released on September 27. They had only two chart hits but they're releasing a "Best Of" compilation. Go figure! Here is why Forever Young is popular again:

Toni Bazil released a greatest hits CD as well.
As did Nick Lowe (although some of his other songs were hits elsewhere).
