In November 1956, 16-year-old John Lennon, a student at Quarry Bank High School in Liverpool, formed the Quarrymen skiffle group with Eric Griffiths, Pete Shotton and Bill Smith. After several lineup changes – Paul McCartney joined in 1957 and George Harrison joined in 1958 – the group became the Beatles. Garry was a member in 1957-58.
