Companies That Might Go Out Of Business

Until Neil Young says fuck Spotify again

He came crawling back.

And George Lucas re-re-re-edits the Star Wars movies so not only does Han not shoot first but it's rewritten so Greedo converts to Christianity at the creature cantina.

It's very easy to find and download the de-specialized versions of the original trilogy. They're actually quite fun to watch.

And we're probably only days away from being unable to find this movie, or any films critical of this unnamed person, on any streaming services

And now we're just getting hyperbolic.

Over the past few years, I've listened to a lot of new music, but bought very little. Most of the recent purchases have been gifts from my daughter. But my point is that all the music I own comes from a physical form, which I additionally rip onto my computer. I don't buy downloads, or have libraries of music on any service. The reasons are:
- I've always done this (collected LPs & CDs of albums I liked)
- I have the nice stereo to play it on, and the room to store it all
- I can put whatever I want from it onto my computer and phone (and car), at any time

I don't collect video (TV and movies). I have some DVDs from several years ago, and that's it. We have old home videos that we converted to DVD.

There are a bunch of artists who wouldn't release their music in streaming/digital form (Tool, AC/DC, etc) that now have it available. Very few artists are still holding out (Eddy Grant - The 'Electric Avenue' guy, added his content online after years of holding out). The biggest story when they finally did was of course, the Beatles when they added to Apple Music/what was iTunes back then.

The only artist I know of who isn't available on every service is Garth Brooks (only on Amazon Music, no big loss otherwise).

The Kindle I don't buy much content from, it's mostly used for borrowing e-books from the Library (Libby app) and Kindle Unlimited, which you're renting books anyway. If I like it well enough from one of those, I buy the physical copy, which I have a growing library of. I have about a half-dozen on a growing list that I want to buy physical copies of when I can.

I should also mention that I don't use the cloud for either my phone or our home laptop. I physically back-up all our pictures (and have a back-up for that).

With the home laptop, they make it difficult to not use the cloud. The file manager won't even show any non-cloud directories. So the only way to get to the pictures folder is to put a shortcut on the desktop. It's really pathetic.

I'm the opposite. I have iCloud. .99 a month for like 50 GB. All my music, pictures and videos are on there along with my contacts and various other things on the phone. Makes it easier to switch to a new device (which could be happening very soon) and have everything there. AirDrop also makes it easy when you want to share any of the above with another iPhone user.

I buy as little as little digital as possible. Unfortunately, some stuff isn't always available in physical format
I'm with Scotch. Give me a CD and I'll rip it and back it up to a separate hard drive. I like the album art and liner notes too.
I don't trust cloud services and I don't want to pay them every month and deal with rate hikes. I also don't want to have to deal with trying to back everything up if there's a problem with the service. I'd rather skip the middleman and just keep all of my own files.

The only thing left I buy that's physical media is books, only because I don't trust Amazon any further than I can throw them. And I like the feel of physical books as opposed to staring at yet another screen on a daily basis (I'm in I.T., that gets old after a while!)

If I lived in a bigger place, I'd probably make room for a vinyl collection or something, maybe later.

Hooters is so sexists to women. I rather boycott them as we need more places for men and women to serve food with guys dressed like this.

Wolf, you should like the "role reversal" video of Maddie & Tae's 2014 number-one country hit Girl In A Country Song. Well......maybe you won't. Those guys don't look all that good in those skimpy clothes.

I like that country song and those guys don't bother me.

You might not like this car wash scene. It's f'ing funny.

Who's the hottest in this pic? Because I've got three contenders. The one on the far right with his arms up, The one in the Middle with the black boots, or the one behind black boots with the sunglasses.

I'm probably going with the middle one. He looks fun!

The second one on the far right. :lostit:

The two largest radio broadcasting companies filed for bankruptcy protection – iHeartMedia in 2018 and Audacy in 2024 – but it is very rare for an individual station to file for bankruptcy protection as KDHX in St. Louis did this week.

You can hear the station – for now, at least – at Home - KDHX
