Concerts you have attended?

It's not Taylor Swift but a good concert. Foreigner: The Farewell Tour with special guest Loverboy (this will be the 3rd time I will wind up seeing Loverboy -- none of them as the headliner I was going to see.). The concert is next summer and I have seats not under a roof but cheap. This concert was actually my son's request. Still concerted out but will enjoy this one.

Upcoming Shows:

2023:
  • HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis [02/10 Richmond Hill Centre, Richmond Hill, ON] (comedy)
  • Irish Rovers [03/10 Casino Rama, Orillia, ON]
  • Journey w/Toto [03/12 Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, ON]
  • Foreigner with Loverboy [07/25 Budweiser Stage, Toronto, ON]

I will try to spoiler mark the surprises. And I will put setlist right here in case you choose not to read more so not to spoil your show in November. Note this is different than the setlist they did in the spring. They dropped one song and shuffled things up a bit.

This show was on Friday. We started the evening with dinner at Boston Pizza. We then found a t-shirt vendor outside the stadium and bought t-shorts. They were at our minimum price. We then went inside. Our seats were in the 300 (upper) level but facing dead on the stage. The stage was at the other end of the hockey rink and we were behind the other goal.

The stage was hidden by a large curtain. About 8:15 the house lights went out and a spotlight came on to a person walking across the stage in front of the curtain. They went from right to left and then picked up a square object. They showed the object and it was the "Hotel California" album. They then placed it upon a record player and moved the arm and dropped it on the album. The speakers played some record static and then the unmistakable opening chords of the song "Hotel Californa" were heard as the curtain rose. They played the songs in the album straight through with breaks between. There was no talking to the audience. After "Wasted Time", a girl came out and walked across the stage and flipped the album.

After the "Hotel California" play was done, Don Henley welcomed us and said they were going to take a short break so we could go pee. They would be back and "do every song we remember". The break was about 20 minutes.

They then proceeded with the greatest hits set. After the first song, they introduced a surprise guest -- Decon Fry. He sang "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling". He came back later and did "Already Gone". He did not play the rest of the evening. This was a bit of a shock since they made a big deal about Decon leaving the group to pursue his own career. Not sure if this was a one time thing or will be a feature of the tour.

It was a good show. Some asshole smoking joints was a constant distraction (more for my son than me). We decided however that this was likely our last Eagles show. We saw them before in 2018. The 4 years have been cruel. Don Henley now looks like an old man. Still plays drum and guitar and sings great. Joe Walsh however has lost his vocal faculties. He seems to be really struggling with enunciation. He also seems to be struggling with memory of lyrics on occasion. "Life's Been Good" was almost painful. He still plays a mean guitar and that salvaged it (barely). Vince Gill still looks youngish. Timothy B. Schmitt looks a bit older. They had another session musician guitarist who was never introduced. So overall a good show. I am glad I went.

ETA: They had a full orchestra to play with them on several songs both for the "Hotel California" part and the rest.

Eagles concert was last night in NOLA.
We all enjoyed it. It's not often you can leave a concert and say that you knew all 28 songs that they played. (They played a cover of Fats Domino’s Walking to New Orleans to close the show).

They're all looking older, but still great on the instruments. The non-member touring guitarist that didn't get much mention was actually excellent also.

I guess that's a good living for a working musician. Get to be on stage with Eagles, probably make good money, but mostly stay away from the famous life.

I am watching the last Elton John North American Concert (yes he has more touring happening) from Dodgers Stadium on Disney+.

A bit anti-climatic. Almost same show he did from Toronto. He added "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" to the setlist and sang it with Kiki Di. He also sang "Cold Heart" with Dua Lipa (whomever she is). Also Bernie Topin made an appearance as did hs husband and kids. But other than that, virtually same show as Toronto.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse were probably in attendance for today's announcement that Bob Iger was returning to the Walt Disney Company as CEO, replacing Bob Chapek. Otherwise, Minnie might have sung that duet with Elton. But Kiki Dee is good too.

Dua Lipa is a British singer who has had 21 top-40 hits (including duets) in the UK. Three of those went to number one, including her duet with Elton John, Cold Heart, in October 2021. In the US, the song reached #7 on the Hot 100 in January 2022.

Cold Heart uses recycled lines from Rocket Man. Elton's duet with Britney Spears was just recycled "Tiny Dancer".

Well la-de-freaking-da. Yeah, I guess if you actually saw him live in Toronto, this broadcast might not be worthwhile. But for the other 7.999 billion of us, it's a concert that we wouldn't have otherwise seen.
I am thinking a majority of people actually watching would have already seen him in concert somewhere on this 3 year farewell tour.

I don’t know if anyone really needs one Lipa, let alone two of them.
I prefer my women to have dua lipa's.

George Carlin:

Am I the only person in this country who’s laughing when these commercials come on television for “Snapper Lawn Mowers”? Isn’t there anyone else in this fading Republic who knows what a snapper is? A snapper is a pussy okay? That’s what it means, “snapper” means “pussy”. It’s derived from an older, more specific term, “Snappin’ Pussy”… which describes a particular type of pussy, one with good quick muscular control, kind of an elasticity in the vaginal wall that can grab a hold of you and give you a decent hump, you know what I’m talking about. A snappin’ pussy! But now, now “snapper” means any kind of pussy and they’ve named a lawn mower company after it! Now I have seen a few snappers in my day, never seen one that’ll cut grass!

Cold Heart uses recycled lines from Rocket Man. Elton's duet with Britney Spears was just recycled "Tiny Dancer".
For a long while (I want to say 2010s?) just about every top 40 had a "borrowed" melody from an old hit. Now they're just going directly to the source I suppose.

The other 2 members are no slouches. Zakk Wylde (Ozzy) and Charlie Benate (Anthrax)! Still totally worth it.

I have seen Zack Wylde perform with Ozzy and his own band Black Label Society. I believe I seen Anthrax either at Mayhem or Ozzfest.

Many years ago, I have seen the band Down with lead singer Phil Anselmo opened up for Metallica.
