I find the results interesting. There were no songs which we all liked. We had 10 voters and the best we could do is to have 9 of us agree to put one song somewhere on our like list. Our dislikes were much more distributed with only a handful not being against a song that at least one of us liked.

The calculation methodology was simple. There were 253 songs to choose from. So if you ranked a song 2 it got 253-2+1 (252) points. No vote is 0 points. A dislike is -1 points. For our #1 song, instead of getting 253 points, I awarded 300 points. The 10 sets of points are added together. I used excell formulas to do most of the math and the sorting.

I am going to present several songs a day from the bottom to the top heading up to the #1 song. I will present who voted for them and what position on their list they were. I will also show who had them on their dislike list. The songs will be presented from the spreadsheet with these titles:

#YearTitle+ Votes- VotesScore

# is position.
+ votes is number of people including the song on the like list.
- votes is the number of people disliking the song (the max number of dislikes for a single song is 3)
Score is the combined score of the song.
The list is sorted by the following criteria:
  • score descending
  • # of + votes descending
  • # of - votes ascending
If the song remains tied, they will be presented as tied.

Now to start the countdown .... next post.

Fontella Bass had a number-one R&B hit and #4 pop hit in November 1965 with Rescue Me. The uncredited background singers are Studio Three, a female trio that included 17-year-old Minnie Riperton.

You may be noticing a commonality in these songs by the person liking them. There is a reason for that.

@Aaron ranked 30 songs.
@Madison ranked 40 songs.
@Wolf ranked 50 songs.
@HecticArt ranked 55 songs.
@sadchild , @IdRatherBeSkiing , and @JHDK ranked 90 songs.
@scotchandcigar ranked 124 songs.
Ok, number 1: there was no limit on the lists. So if I liked the song at all, I left it in. I started with 256 (or whatever the total was), and ended up cutting half the songs. So I don't see what's wrong with that.

Number 2: I ranked the top 30, and then just arranged the rest as higher or lower. So I have no preference between my number 72 and number 78. Or number 95 and 103.

Frankly, I don't know why everyone didn't do this. Hectic did, but then he cut his list down.

I was curious how the one who perhaps most openly dislikes pop music was out here giving likes to Minnie Riperton
She deserves to be on the list, merely by giving birth to Maya Rudolph. But she's a soul singer; it's not disco, or teeny bopper pop. It's a torch song. And I'm sure it was low on my list.

I meant no offence or judgment. I was just commenting because you had the longer of the lists your lower ranked songs are first to show up (where you do not combine with another voter). I cut myself off where I did because I did not like the songs enough to worry about order.
