I think the ability for a grade 1 student to be able to draw the flag is a stupid criteria. I think the new old one is kind of lame.
States had Militia flags before then. Maine separated from Massachusetts in 1820 and used Militia flags until the first State flag in 1901. If you watch that long-ass video sadchild posted, it explains that states didn't have flags just "because".That pine with a star is the original flag of Maine? But the video said it was from 1901... So Maine didn't have any state flag before 1901. That seems weird.
I like flags that are simple shapes and lines, but not TOO simple.
I know the video maker (CGPGrey) doesn't like any words, but I don't mind a word or 3, or a letter.Just because you cant read it doesn't mean that it's not words. FAIL!
Between the sword, and it’s resemblance to the hammer and sickle, this one's out for me.I like Angola's flag. Two colors, three items, and they all mean something pertinent to the nation.

Ok one more
Israel's flag is another good example of a great flag. Simple, effective.

The blue stripes are intended to symbolize the stripes on a tallit, the traditional Jewish prayer shawl.
Are you voting for a Maine flag? If so, which one?I think about flags about as often as I think about washing my car.
