And that may be why I've lost my faith in humanity. I need to find better people to follow on FB that I still don't want to have to talk to in person.

Here's something odd I've noticed; not with Facebook itself, but with my Facebook friends. Most Facebook users have posted "food shots" of their fancy or gluttonous meals at restaurants. Thankfully, I think the trend is waning. But occasionally a friend will post a pic of their home-cooked meal (and yes, I did it here once, but that was for a specific thread).

Well, what I've noticed is that the friends who do that are the ones who can't cook. I guess that makes sense, because they're proud of the fact that they actually opened a few cabinets, turned some knobs, and followed a recipe. Problem is, it's kind of like the parents of an ugly baby; it looks godawful, but you can't say that. It stands to reason that those who can cook a nice meal (and a good looking one), don't need society's pat on the back.

I wish there was a way to say "Look, I know you're real proud of that hamburger helper, but it looks like dog vomit, so don't ever post that again."

I see what you mean, those dishes might be tasty, but definitely not photogenic enough to brag about. I used to post food pics that I cooked on IG but I put a lot of effort into the food and the photography!

I have done that. I have not really ever cooked. When I was single I did a lot of fast food or microwave meals. After I was married, my wife cooked. She was a tremendous cook and she loved cooking so I never did. In 2016 when she fought cancer the first time, I went back to fast food. In 2020 when the cancer came back. I did some cooking. I learned on the fly and made some pretty good pork chops, sloppy joes and a couple other things. Given my going from 0 to a good meal, I took pics and posted them. Of course, my meals were absolute delights visually so it's not really the same thing. But I wanted to share my accomplishment. And really, what else is Facebook for but to share crap that's important to you to bore all your friends with?

I’m sure that I’ve posted some some food photos here before, but don’t thing I’ve posted random meat pix on FB. I rarely post there anyway.

These were in my phone. We never posted them, because well, who cares? But one is part of a bigger pic of friends that we did post.

Actually, I think we took a pic of the stir-fry on the bottom, but then Mrs. Scotch didn't like the taste of it, so that was done.

I was on my own for about 6 months between getting divorced, and being with the current Mrs. Scotch. So I had to cook for the whole family. I learned how to make chicken parmesan, but I became known for my kielbasa with scalloped potatoes (from a box).

On Facebook, I prefer pics of people's travels, kids, pets, meals, houses, and new toys vs. memes, news, politics, and emotional whining.

One of my Facebook friends used to post pictures of himself eating in a restaurant. He did this almost every time he went out to eat. His wife took the pictures. I finally said something to him that convinced him to quit posting pictures of his meals: "It's like you're telling the world, 'Hey, look at me! I'm the only person in the world who ever eats in a restaurant!'" He defended himself, though. He insisted the pictures were his way of recommending good restaurants to others. Yeah, okay. He could have just told people about the restaurants without including pictures of himself eating.

A few years ago when I was fancy cooking more often, I enjoyed seeing food pics because it sometimes gave me ideas.
I remember you posting some of those here, and they were much more gourmet looking than my friends' posts. Is it just me, or does that last one look partially eaten?
