I was playing Whatsamusic last night and song came on I couldn't identify. At the end of the clip, I saw it was a song by Amanda Palmer. In the chat, I posted "That was a woman?" I don't remember the song. I might have been "City Hall"? Not sure. I'll repost if I figure it out.

PS - I love her song "Girl Anachronism" (as Dresden Dolls).

She's good. I don't remember her stuff offhand, but she gets played on several music formats, and my daughter likes her too.

Thufferin' Thuccotash! I thought Sylvester was a female.

Sylvester James Jr. (September 6, 1947 – December 16, 1988), known simply as Sylvester, was an American singer-songwriter. Primarily active in the genres of disco, rhythm and blues, and soul, he was known for his flamboyant and androgynous appearance, falsetto singing voice, and hit disco singles in the late 1970s and 1980s.

But ..

Born in Watts, Los Angeles, to a middle-class African-American family, Sylvester developed a love of singing through the gospel choir of his Pentecostal church. Leaving the church after the congregation expressed disapproval of his homosexuality, he found friendship among a group of Black cross-dressers and transgender women who called themselves the Disquotays. Moving to San Francisco in 1970 at the age of 22, Sylvester embraced the counterculture and joined the avant-garde drag troupe the Cockettes, producing solo segments of their shows, which were heavily influenced by female blues and jazz singers such as Billie Holiday and Josephine Baker.

.. maybe I was right? Right-ish? I mean, if that's how this person identified..?

Michael Milosh formed Rhye in 2010 in Toronto. Milosh sounds like a woman. Rhye released its first album in 2013. It's titled Woman. There ya go!

We do have a thread for everything and you all have covered it all. sadchild pointed out to me in my I love SiriusXM post.

I will add my DJO "Potion" song to this list.

and these:

I known this song for years but only realized the lead is female recently

This came out when I was 8 or 9. I thought it was a female singer. As the years go by, I can notice the differences but could see some taken a mistaken identity:

While Channel 98's sister may have mistaken Neil Sadaka's voice in "Laughter In The Rain" as female, one could mistaken Lea Roberts version as male, maybe

I will have to catch up on listening through this post

Eddie Holman's Hey There Lonely Girl was a remake of Hey There Lonely Boy, a 1963 hit by Ruby & The Romantics. In 1969, Holman recorded a version of the Skyliners' 1959 hit Since I Don't Have You. The uncredited background singers are the Peter De Angelis Chorus. When Holman's songs are playing, all the neighborhood dogs howl.

Robin McNamara was a replacement cast member of the 1968 Broadway musical Hair. He filled in a few times for James Rado in the role of Claude Hooper Bukowski. Several other cast members provide the background vocals on Lay A Little Lovin' On Me. The song peaked at #11 on the August 22 1970 Billboard Hot 100. McNamara released nine singles between 1969 and 1977. His only other hit was Got To Believe In Love, which also features the cast of Hair. It reached #80 in October 1970. Here is the song – but why does it show the sheet music of Hang In There Baby, which came out in November 1970?
