A couple of weekends ago we did a brutally quick weekend in NJ for a memorial service. New Jersey was nice, but the drive was brutal. The car was fantastic on the Merritt Parkway, and generally great all-around, but in order to visit with family on Saturday, and go to the memorial service on Sunday, we had to drive down Friday afternoon, right at rush hour. And after rush hour, it was road construction. Sunday had the returning travelers. If I didn't mention, my 97 year old aunt died last year from covid after a hospitalization for something else. Coming home, we got stuck in the Tappan Zee bridge Cuomo bridge backup. It was 5 lanes of traffic, we had the top down, and a big-rig driver stuck his head out the window and said to us "You should be back in Maine by October!". That was funny.
Anyway, we had to board the dogs, and so they had to get shots at the vet beforehand. They said that Talia is nearing full size; she's 25 pounds. So I thought I'd post some updated pics of her, in her full shagginess.

Mrs. Scotch likes to tell people that she's hypoallergenic, because she's got hair instead of fur. Of course, it's of no benefit to us, because we still have 3 very allergenic pets in the house.
As of 8.27 Athena is on a diet. She's looking a bit chunky lately and I had those 2 health scares (well documented in this thread) so I figure getting her back into shape will probably help with that.
She get 1/4 a cup twice a day, so half a cup total. So far she seems to have some food left by the time I give her the night meal but when I wake up her bowl is empty when it's time for the morning meal.
I used to just keep 2 large food bowls out for her at all times and she never got fat. Like all of us that doesn't seem to stay the case as she ages. Also she's way less annoying about it than I expected. She doesn't bitch about being hungry much at all. I went into this thinking she'd keep me up all night for at least the first few days.

I gained a ton of weight on my last bender...there was a seriously astronomical amount of beer involved. It's been 2 weeks now and I'm back to my 2 walks a day so I'm slowly but surely (don't call me Shirley) getting back to where I was. Athena and I both are watching our weights now, although she's not doing it voluntarily.
This video reminded me of Talia.
I love The Dodo btw. They by far make the best produced and often touching animal videos on Youtube.
The cougar will be taken to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. I don't think I really want to know how the creek got its name.

Ok, well you all already knew this but I'm a moron. I figured I'd have to take Athena to Publix to weigh her (they have a scale in the front of every store) since with my scale you need to have a foot on either side to get a reading. It took me until this morning to realize I could simply weigh myself then weigh myself again while holding Athena to get her weight.
Turns out she is fat, 14lbs even. Tom was always 16lbs but he was a guy cat and just overall a pretty big cat, he was never fat. Athena of course is a girl cat and more of a normal cat body type so 14lbs is fat. And she's probably already lost some weight since I've had her on the cat diet for 9 days now.
I want to get her down to 12lbs. I'm trying to play with her more often along with controlling how much she eats. My plan now is to weigh her once every week.

And I went to Disney this week so I left her a ton of food she could eat at will for 2 days of the week.
