SiriusXM '60s Gold playlist

Bettye Swann, born Betty Jean Champion in Shreveport, Louisiana, wrote Make Me Yours and had a number-one R&B hit and #21 pop hit with the song in July 1967. It was not on the list – until now. The background singers are Bettye Swann, who did a lot of overdubbing.

 
Bettye Swann released 21 singles. She had six consecutive top-40 R&B hits, 1965-73, including the number one Make Me Yours. On the Hot 100, she had only two top-40 hits: Make Me Yours got to #27 and a remake of Jeannie Seely's 1966 country hit Don't Touch Me reached #38. In May 1969, Swann released a remake of Merrilee Rush's 1968 hit Angel Of The Morning. Juice Newton had a hit in 1981 with a version of the song – but Swann's version never charted.

 
I think we can add James Brown & The Famous Flames' Think to the list. In fact, I know we can. Think was written by 5 Royales guitarist Lowman Pauling and was originally a #9 R&B hit for the 5 Royales in October 1957. (Pauling also co-wrote Dedicated To The One I Love.) Brown's remake of Think got to #7 on Billboard's R&B chart in July 1960 and reached #33 on the Hot 100. In 1973, Brown had a #15 R&B hit and #77 pop hit with a new version of the song.

 
"Here I come, workin' on the list. I get the funniest looks 'cause there's another song I missed." We can add The Girl I Knew Somewhere, the B-side of the Monkees' A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You. This was written by Michael Nesmith and peaked at #39 on the April 15 1967 Hot 100.

 
Percy Faith's Theme From A Summer Place, written by Max Steiner, was number one for nine weeks in February-March-April 1960. The Lettermen's vocal version, with lyrics written by Mack Discant, peaked at #15 on the August 7 1965 Billboard Hot 100 – and it is not on the list. Until now. At least I'm adding the song in summer. That is a small consolation.

 
Today on the '60s channel, Madison heard two songs that are not on the list. They are on it now. Dino's Song, written by Dino Valenti, was Quicksilver Messenger Service's first single, released in May 1968. It failed to chart. And my my my, The Spider & The Fly was the B-side of the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction in the UK and was released on the U.S. version of their Out Of Their Heads album.
