The Musical Instrument Thread

Eh, I could go for an American Standard but it's about $800 more. I was thinking more economy than brand, without having to go for a Squire or something.

I will get the work done on the guitar that it needs. Maybe some slightly smaller strings, since these seem to be too big even after the action was adjusted. I'm due for a new set anyway. I just have bigger fish to fry right now.

I'd be at a Paul McCartney concert right now in NOLA as we speak... But he postponed until October.

Bummer! I'm not crazy about anything Paul did post-Beatles, but he was a great Beatle. You could argue he was better at everything than any other guy in the band, except maybe George. George was a great lead guitarist.

Post-Beatles Paul is pretty cheese ball, but he came up with some good stuff (still like 'Live and Let Die'.)

McCartney also unleashed one of the coolest bass lines ever towards the end of "Everybody's Got Something To Hide But Me and My Monkey".

At 2:03..

I'll give it a close listen later...

I do like "Take it Away."

I was playing "Thriller" (the album) for the girls in the office the other day. The oldest is 28, so they missed Michael Jackson mania in the '80s. I was trying to explain that MJ was the biggest thing since the Beatles, and there hasn't been as big a cultural phenomenon since. Then "The Girl is Mine" came on, a Paul and Michael duet, which I had totally forgotten was even on Thriller. It's a cheesy song, but it's crazy that the biggest Beatle was on the biggest album by the King of Pop. Talk about linking the two biggest music crazes ever. That's big. Big, I tell you.

Plus, EVH plays guitar on "Beat It." So there's that.

McCartney also did 'Say Say Say' with MJ (which I think is a better song). But yeah, I've still got Thriller on vinyl around here somewhere. I grew up during the time when Michael Jackson was HUGE!! Even the concert with his brothers sold out old Mile High Stadium back in '84 (I believe).

Michael Jackson mania was simply bigger than Jesus. Did you know that while Thriller (the album) came out in November of '82 (when I was 10), the video for the song of the same name came out a full YEAR later? It won eight grammys in 1984. They squeezed every bit of money out of that album.

I'm currently looking for a site that provides actual guitar sheet music (with chords included) that's better than ultimate guitar. There's quite a few songs I'd like to learn that are just missing from Ultimate Guitar, I'd even be willing to pay for the sheet music if it's not TOO much money. Either that or an app that provides the same thing. I have yet to find either.

I love the pay version of the ultimate guitar tabs app.
Chords, tabs, etc.

The Tab Pro version has you in control of a mini switchboard where you can isolate and listen to certain tracks, bass track, rhythm track, and watch the tablature scroll across the screen.

I'm sure there are sites to buy sheet music from. I just haven't looked. Amazon even?
There's a local music store that has aisles if printed sheet music for sale, so I know it's out there somewhere.

I might do that too, but some stuff doesn't have a paid version. I found 'Signs' by Five Man Electrical Band but no paid version and the most 'accurate' version is 4 stars.

I've never used the pay side of UG. It's really that good?

On another note, (pun intended) my new axe was shipped and is supposed to be in town next week!

And I'm almost done rebuilding the Strat I was working on. Hopefully one more coat of clear, then polishing. I ran out of clear today and hope to find the same brand tomorrow. The electronics are all soldered together and tested, and it should be ready to go.

We play another backyard party in 2 weeks, it'll be nice to have em both in time.

I find that most of the tabs are wrong in one way or another. The stars don't always mean that one is better than another. Sometimes you have to Frankenstein tabs together from a few different ones. Usually, you have to add bits of stuff that you figure out on your own to make them more accurate.

Did you get the tabs I emailed to you? Those were more accurate than what's on the tab sites. I should post the ones I have corrected back to UG, they may not be 100%, but they are better than some of them out there.

Yeah, I've got them. I'm wanting to learn that one after I get the work done on the acoustic and some new strings. That should be soon, probably before the end of July.

Evidently I've used these guys before, because they're bookmarked in my browser:
Guitar Sheet Music Page

And I've also apparently used these guys: Download Sheet Music at Musicnotes.com

Tip: when you "print" online sheet music, print it to a pdf printer like PDF Creator. Then you can print all you want...

Google is your friend--try "online sheet music." There are bunches out there.

I've been playing "Hard Day's Night" by the Beatles the past couple of days and restringing my acoustics, one of which hadn't seen new strings since Christmas, and the other of which never had since I bought (it's a parlor and doesn't get much use, except for travel or thumpy, boxy blues tunes). The Beatles tune is fun, even the change from Big G (playing a D on the second string) to a Bm barre chord.

I actually found musicnotes.com on Google last night, that might be worth looking into. I like their selection. And the price isn't horrible.

Great song to play!

One question though... without the benefit of a 12 string, are you able to give justice to the famous opening chord?
