I am sure the New York Times will continue to publish scores and standings. I can't imagine any newspaper publisher or editor looking at what the Los Angeles Times did and thinking, "Hey, what a great idea! Let's quit including scores and standings in our sports section!" – unless they really want their print edition to lose a lot of subscribers.

Speaking of newspapers, I've been very tempted lately to get a subscription to the Sun Sentinel and get it delivered to my place. I don't know. There's just something fun about like paging through a newspaper and really all I ever read is the front page, the local and the national sections cause the sports are local to Miami and I don't give a fuck about Miami sports. Problem being nobody cares about newspapers anymore. So if you want to get a subscription it cost like $2 per paper. So That's like $700 plus per year. And if you want to get that same days paper at like Wawa it's about $3.50. It's kind of expensive. But there is something old school cool about it. Just makes me feel like an adult and I very rarely feel like an adult even though I'm about to be 40.

Mister JHDK, you will like the website Today's Front Pages. Each day it shows the front pages of 480 daily newspapers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, India, Brazil, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Turkey and other countries. You can enlarge each page by clicking on it. Mister Hectic will be glad to know the site includes The Toledo Blade – but who decided "Blade" would be a good name for a newspaper?

Ahhhh, The Bland…..”One of America’s Papers.”
I think the name was based on the famed Spanish swords or something.

If you're a well-to-do intellectual up here, you'll have the Boston Globe and NY Times delivered, and screw the cost. But back in the old days, we used to get either the Boston Globe for 50 cents/day or the Lawrence (Mass) Eagle-Tribune for a quarter a day.

Mister Hectic, you are correct about the origin of the Toledo newspaper's name. This is on their website: "Where did The Blade get its name? Toledo, Ohio has a sister city in Toledo, Spain. So it made sense that the newspaper be named after a well-known product of that city – the steel-bladed sword."

In today's Los Angeles Times sports section, sports editor Iliana Limón Romero explains the real reason for the elimination of scores and standings: "Staff reductions and an upcoming change to our printing press forced us to adopt early deadlines and we no longer can deliver box scores, standings or game results in the print edition." The print deadline is now mid-afternoon. Rather than print scores two days after the games instead of on the next day, the Times eliminated them altogether.

Letters from 17 readers appear today. All 17 are negative. Six have canceled their subscriptions. Four others are threatening to do the same. This letter from Fredric Reichel of Santa Monica is typical: "So now we don't get a real Sports section. If I must use my computer or cellphone to find out who won a ball game or tennis match, I don't need the L.A. Times. I am sorry to say that this is another step toward the end of print newspapers."

If you're a person who cares enough to buy the newspaper, then the box score is kind of important. I know it's easy enough to get on your phone but I mean even before phones you could get it on your pager. It's just nice to have it in the newspaper. It's kind of part of why there is a newspaper.

Also, that makes me think. Do any of you know how to keep score at a baseball game? Like where you fill out that whole thing. I have no idea how to do that. I'm not a baseball guy but you see the old guys filling out the thing when you're at the game. It's kind of neat

I can do it. I used to do it religiously when I was younger and had the time to watch/listen to every game. I used to put the game on the tv and mute the sound then listen to the game on the radio. I got better descriptions of the play that way. Then just record the game. You just need to learn a sequence of conventions. Often the radio guy would give you the play (that was a 6-3 for example. Occasionally I will buy a program and grab a pencil and record a game I watch live. But its harder.

For a while I was subscriber to the Washington Post, New York Times and Wall Street Journal, all digital editions. May do it again in the future when the money's right.

Box scores aren't really a thing for me anymore. If I'm not watching a game it's usually 'Hey Siri, who won the Red Sox game?" and it's good about giving me a quick score.

So just shaved my head. And when I say shaved I mean I just took the clippers on the closest number and did that I didn't actually take a razor to my head . But that was still a big decision. I've been thinking about it for a while because of the bald spot in the back. Pam told me I didn't have to do it yet but I thought I'd just got to go straight full on agassi now. I got to grow my beard out because I got to have some sort of hair on this whole area. When I was a kid I had a long hair like a hippie and it was awesome and now here we are so not very happy about it but whatever I'll get used to it

Now that you have got most of it off, take a razor to it and get the rest. The smooth head is really cool. Also using the razor to control it is far easier than the clippers.

I don't think I could rock the shaved scalp look. But like I posted somewhere else on here, that bald spot is becoming more and more apparent. I saw a photo of me taking a bow at the end of my band's set at 3 Doors Down and went ugh.... there's the spot.

Go full Picard!

The Mrs took a picture of me taking a picture of this cool building today.
I was looking up, so she got a shot of the back of my head. I had gotten my hair cut the other day, and with it being short, the spot is getting visible. I think I have a while to go before having to shave my melon, but it is what it is.
