These dates are rather close. However, sometime in the summer of 1990 a friend of mine and I did a trip to NYC. We were there an extended week (1 week + 2 weekends) So I will pretend it was the above date.

We did all the usual sites. We saw a Yankees game and a Mets game. We saw an Eric Clapton concert in Long Island. We endured the Statue of Liberty. We tried to see Letterman. We didn't get reservations but they take overflow. We got number 51 and 52 by lining up at 8AM. When we came back at 4PM they took 10.

On the day we did the statue of liberty, it was really really hot and humid. And we were trying to navigate the subway and on the map it looks like 2 lines intersected at a certain station. In fact the lines cross but they do not connect. Eventually we planned a different route. It was late we found a nice italian restaurant. It was late after 8PM (it was a long day). We placed our order and brought out the maps and started to plan our next day. At some time later the waiter came back and says how was everything. We look at each other and say we didn't know we hadn't got anything yet. I guess he had forgotten to either get the order or place the order. We got it some time later and it was delicious. When we got the bill he had already added 15% gratuity. There was a spot to add more and I wrote "included" on it. I got the biggest glare I got the whole week. I think it was one of the famous New York glares.

It was a great trip. My friend got a steady girlfriend the next year so our yearly vacations stopped. I have lost touch with him over time. He did not move with the times. He does/did not own a home computer. He felt that since he worked with them during the day he didn't need one at night. He also does not believe in social media. He still lives in Regina, SK as far as I know.

Somewhere I've talked about the "exchange trips" that our high school band used to do. A band from another state would come to north Jersey and stay with us, and do a joint performance. And then sometime later we'd go to their school. When they visited us, they always went to the Statue of Liberty. And the feedback I heard was that it was mostly a lot of standing in line.

We tried visiting New York City when I was a teenager on vacation, spent 1.5 hours on the GW bridge in a traffic jam, decided against it and continued up to Niagara Falls.

July 1990.
Sometime that month my dad had a work related convention to attend in St. Louis, Missouri. We drove there and stayed a few days, went to the Arch and attended my only MLB game, Cubs at Cardinals in the prior Busch Stadium.
Then we drove to Chicago to spend two nights and did as much sightseeing as possible while there. I love Chicago.

I will have to not to next time I visit.
In 2003, I went to see a Springsteen concert at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. The afternoon before we went on a drive into Manhattan. It was a bit more chaotic than driving in downtown Toronto but we managed. If someone pulls up 2003/08/29 in the randomizer, I can go more into that trip.

My one week anniversary of losing the big V. My first long-term girlfriend had CAV -- congenital absence of the vagina, a birth defect where the vagina is missing or underdeveloped. When I put my finger in, it would hit a wall at the 'end'. No uterus. No periods. She had exercises she did to push the wall back. We had fooled around in many other ways for a few months but then one night my roommate, his girlfriend, me and my girlfriend slept over my roommate's mother's house (she was away for the weekend). I hopped on top (no, not a foursome, pervert!) and though I couldn't go all the way in, let's just say it was good enough to create a condition that would have impregnated any other girl.

In my apartment, my roommate and I covered the walls with record flats (square posters the same size as a record jacket with album art on it, record stores put them on the walls and windows to promote new releases). Instead of TV, we had a shoebox full of casssingles (remember those? cassette singles!) and would basically take turns popping one in.

It was right around this time I bought my first CD. I got into the Red Hot Chili Peppers summer 1989 (thank you Steven Tyler on MTV), bought their 3rd album immediately. A month or two later their 4th album came out, bought that. Saw them live at a college in May 1990. Then I saw this CD...

..and I saw "3 Unreleased Cuts". WHAT?! MORE MUSIC?! NOT ON THE ALBUM?! So I bought it and gave it to a friend with a CD player to put it on tape for me.

Around the summer of '90, the nut and I were attempting to get back to a normal married life. We took a trip to Bermuda, where I drove us around on one of those motor scooters. And that gave me the bug to buy my first motorcycle, at almost age 30. And for the next 10 years, until age 40, I always had a motorcycle.

My one week anniversary of losing the big V.

You remember the exact date? All I remember is that I was 16, I drove the girl back to her house in my sweet, sweet Pontiac Bonneville SE, it was in the winter cause it was cold as fuck and we got down in her basement. So it had to be somewhere between December 00 (when I turned 16) and March or early April 01 (when it can still be painfully cold).

I honestly remember the Bonneville both more fondly and in more detail. That car was awesome.

I had a lot of things happened to me on the first of a month. Kinda weird coincidence. Born on the first of August. Lost the V on July 1. There were more 'happened on the first of the month' things, but I don't remember the rest of them now that I'm old.
