I like the Rush songs most die-hards scoff at, like "Distant Early Warning", "The Big Money", "Force Ten", "Time Stand Still", "Show Don't Tell" and "Nobody's Hero".

I like those too although I have gotten sick of nobody's hero.

Like limelight too. Tom Sawyer is better.

Favourite rush song is Spirit of Radio.

Spirit of Radio is a good song.

They have many awesome songs. Most of Moving Pictures should be played in one sitting.

I'll listen to Moving Pictures from start to finish. The whole thing is killer in my book. The hook and drive of Limelight work for me. For as much as I love the complex tunes, it's like anything else, a good straight ahead rock and roll tune just scratches the itch.

13. I CAN'T STAND IT - ERIC CLAPTON

Notable for being the first #1 song on the then-new Mainstream Rock Songs chart. However, I find it appropriately titled because "I Can't Stand It" myself. George Carlin once said, "White people got no business playing the blues ever, at all, under any circumstances. Ever, ever, ever."

40. ONLY THE YOUNG - JOURNEY

Touching story about the song. Don't care for the song though.

37. VOX HUMANA - KENNY LOGGINS

You can basically sing the lyrics to Footloose along to this song. Photocopy.

36. THE BIRD - THE TIME

Where the heck were the lyrics? Did they play the instrumental version?

35. CARELESS WHISPER - WHAM! / GEORGE MICHAEL
30. EVERYTHING SHE WANTS - WHAM!

It should be against the law to play two Wham songs within the same month, forget the same hour.

29. NEW ATTITUDE - PATTI LABELLE

Forgot this existed. Didn't miss it though.

25. DON'T COME AROUND HERE NO MORE - TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS
15. ALL SHE WANTS TO DO IS DANCE - DON HENLEY

Here are a couple songs that were experimental & risky for '85 but sound pretty dated today. I still like them though.

#66 Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Welcome To The Pleasuredome"

Aside from Simple Minds, this is my favorite song on the Hot 100 this week.

Won't make the top 40
#51 Santana "Say It Again"
#54 Jermaine Stewart "The Word Is Out" (#41 peak!)
#64 Giuffria "Lonely In Love"
#66 Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Welcome To The Pleasuredome"
#75 John Waite "Change"
#79 John Parr "Magical"
#82 Paul Hardcastle "Rain Forest"
#84 Scandal "Beat Of A Heart" (#41 peak!)
#85 Kurtis Blow "Basketball"
#89 Alan Parsons Project "Let's Talk About Me"
#100 Alphaville "Forever Young"

Heard this exact same countdown 2 years ago.

Here's what I said about it back then:

Twelve songs from artists i know pretty well = Twelve songs I scratched my head and said "I was 16 going on 17 that year, and have never heard these songs."

Most of them, I haven't heard since that VJ40.

New notes...

38. I WILL BE THERE - GLASS TIGER

That was some 'talk-up' for this song. Kinda like saying: Betty Johnson's first kid is an international film star, her second child is the world's leading brain surgeon, her third child, well, he just got fired from McDonalds. Let's talk about him...

3. DON'T DREAM IT'S OVER - CROWDED HOUSE

I don't get why this song is so lauded, both then and now. Sure, it's a decent tune. I don't mind hearing it once in a while. But #1 in Canada and NZ, and #2 in the US? And then this?...

In May 2001, the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) celebrated its 75th anniversary by naming the Best New Zealand and Best Australian songs of all time, as decided by APRA members and an industry panel. "Don't Dream It's Over" was ranked second on the New Zealand list and seventh on the Australian list.

Will not make the top 40:
Billboard's site will only load this week's hot 100 for me, no previous weeks whatsoever?!

I think they did 1980 in February, had lots of the same songs (going down now, up then). Not that big a deal except the VJs used the same stories for a couple of them. Mark Goodman did almost the same verbatim story of Cars as the VJ who introduced it in February did. A couple other stories were similar.
