Adventures In Koopland

Will it be a talkie?

In the early married days, I'd get the Mrs a coach bag, or Kate Spade, or Dooney & Bourke. They're nice, but it seems like a married guy thing. Plus, she may have a preference for bag style - handbag, shoulder bag, hobo, cross-body, big or small etc.

If you know that she has pierced ears, earrings might be nice, diamond studs or emerald or sapphire. It's less of a commitment than a necklace or wristband (bracelet).

Nah, there will be a guy playing the piano in front of the screen.

Now this is good advice, except too late. Went and got some small, white (because she mentioned something at work about a white bag I think/hope) Coach bag. It's cute. If she hates it she can return it, I'm sure there is something in that store she'd dig.

Flowers. Chicks dig flowers.

ETA: Flowers die, so if it goes south she won’t have them hanging around to remind her of you.

Already got her an orchid earlier in the week. But it was a plant so it will take longer to die. I'll probably get a bouquet too.

I don't do flowers. In Arizona, it's easier to give somebody a small cactus plant. If things go south, you can tell that person "Oh that cactus for you, you're a prick." :p

Ok this birthday gift has become quite the task. She came over again today and I found out she like bigger bags. When she left I went back to the Coach store, returned the small white one I got yesterday and replaced it with a much bigger one. It was only like $20 more than the small one so no big deal, just took some effort. She better like this thing.

See, I told you. In general, the small handbags or clutches are only for a night out, but not practical for everyday.

I'm skeptical about the $20 difference. If it's leather, a big bag could be twice the price.

Good call.

It may be a Coach outlet store, I'm not sure, at the Sawgrass Mall. Almost everything was like 60% off. The first one cost $112 and the new one was $135. And both of them were leather, so I don't know.

Check it for flaws before you give it to her. (Stitching, zippers or clasps messed up, etc.)
Also, make sure the logo doesn’t say something like Coack, or Caoch, or something.

It might be just fine, but with the proliferation of outlet stores, manufacturers have started making secondary lines of products, just for sale at the outlets. In other words, if you want a genuine Coach bag from the Coach line, you have to go to a Coach store, or an authorized retailer, such as Macys, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus etc. The stuff for sale at the outlets are often not the same products. They may be made by Coach, but it's just some Chinese manufacturer that is authorized by Coach to make a line of merchandise for sale at outlets.

Don't get me wrong; genuine Coach products are now made in China too, but everything's made in China. Ugg boots are an Australian company, and at one time, the knockoffs were made in China. But now the genuine boots are made in China.

Anyway, I'm into Pumas, and I know that the Puma outlets near me sell both original and outlet-only stuff. And the original models may very well be factory seconds.

You're making me nuts now.

This is the exact store I went to:

Looks pretty official to me but seeing it say "factory" which I didn't notice at first pretty much confirms it's an outlet but it's clearly an official Coach outlet, not a Burlington or something like that. Who knows if this bag was made only for the outlets. The woman there saw me looking lost and when I told her I needed something bigger she said the one I got was probably the most popular. I guess that means most popular from that store but once again, who knows?

You're making me nuts now.
Not my intent.

Here's the best part: You're a guy - a guy who looks like he knows nothing about handbags. I'll bet she'll like the bag, and appreciate the thought and effort you put in. And there's a good chance she's not a handbag snob either.

Just for reference, though, this is a sampling of the Coach bags for sale at Bloomingdale's

Note the generally high prices. Another factor that works into this is style. The fashion stores carry a limited selection of bags from each designer; and as with clothing, they offer what's "in" for the season. The factory outlets might carry a few in-season bags for a window display, but much of their stock is not up-to-date. So a factory bag that (to you) looks about the same as a fashion bag might sell for half the price. Boojie women who like having the "in" designer bag, also want to have the current in-season style. But many other women would rather get a factory bag at half the price, as long as it says "Coach". That's why the outlets are so popular.

So, in general, relax. :celebrate1:
