Adventures In Koopland

If I were to start a new relationship at 40+ years old:

1. I would talk superficially about my past relationships ("Oh her? She was a friend of a co-worker. Her parents were really nice. Her brother won a Grammy for Best R&B recording without autotune. But after a few years we realized weren't compatible. We haven't spoken in years.)

2. I would make sure Miss Now (no relation to Dr Now) felt like the only important person to me in the present.

3. I would never talk about (or give her access to) the worst mistakes of my past.

4. I would not repeat the worst mistakes from my past and strive to move forward in the new relationship with a positive attitude.

5. Hi Pam.

Hi Pam. My darling.

Anyway... So we have trust issues that are all my fault because of my drinking. I'm trying my best to fix them but she wants to talk Abt it so fucking much. Jesus god damn Christ talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk talk. Can I just say I'm sorry like I'm truly fucking sorry and then we can just move on? Nope. That's not how it works. But it's all worth it cause she's super awesome and super hot and super smart. I love just talking to her, fighting with her Abt politics or whatever. I love how she can beat me in an argument about that type of stuff. And she lets me do sex things with her. So all of that combined makes it way worth it.

I mean I'm bitching but at the same time I love how much she cares and I'm not just saying that because I know she's going to read this once again. Hi Pam. But she's the first one who's like actually cared this much. And when I say care I guess that means love also and it's really nice. I'm smitten and in love. I just wish she could believe me more and it's sucks that I made it that she can't. But we're getting back to it. It may take time but it's so worth it. I have my problems but at least I'm not a goddamn architect in Toledo. No matter how bad it gets, it's good to know things could be way worse.

Well this architect in Toledo has managed to keep his girl for 24 years............so...........

Get your head out of your ass, and get your ass to some meetings. If you want to make it work with this girl, do the fucking work and quit sabotaging yourself.

Hey everyone - I’m going to be deleting my account here and just wanted to say goodbye and thanks for the laughs. I’ve been reading for a couple months now and I have thoroughly enjoyed the humor and candor, but in the best interest of Mr Koopman, my obsessive brain, and your boys club freedom of speech, I believe it’s best for me to exit and not look back.

Also - one of you guys lives in Roanoke. I lived there for 8 years before moving to Richmond. My sister lives in Salem now. Small world.

And finally, I am not sure why I care so much what you fellas think, but I do want you to know that despite the unconventional nature of my relationship with Jan, I love him very deeply and wish very much that things had turned out differently. Our time together wasn’t the result of a mid life crisis (the career change very well may have been, though…) and I’m not a serial cheater.

OK BYE

I root for peoples relationships to work, but in either case I wish the best for both of you, together or apart, wherever life leads you.

I'm sorry to see you go too!

It was fun having you around even for a little while.

Best of luck to you with both your personal and professional lives.

This situation has certainly been far more interesting and entertaining than my Facebook feed. And you're quite a good sport. I wish you well.

Wishing you the best in life.

Your legend with live on because every time someone posts something that could be taken as sexist/misogynic, the expected reply is and will continue to be "Hi Pam!"

I love inside jokes and callbacks!

Making male friends in your 40s is kind of weird, right? Like how do you go about it? I don't know.

Well this guy came in. He rented a unit and we got to talking. He was a marine so that's awesome. So I got to talking to him about about football and then I totally told him he had to watch that John Adams show on HBO show because I mean he was a marine so he's obviously patriotic and that show is super patriotic.

Then we like exchanged numbers. It was weird. So how do you ask a guy you want to hang out but you don't want it to be like a date because that would be weird?

Anyway now we've texted a couple times and I'm pretty sure when football starts we're going to watch a couple games together.

Apparently I have a new boyfriend.

As long as it happens naturally based on similar interests I think it's totally rad. But yeah it's awkward if some dude is like "Nice Metallica shirt. I like Metallica too. We should hang." Or "Mac and cheese for lunch? I like mac and cheese too. We should hang." No, we shouldn't.

Or this is the correct temperature to have your unit at to store dead bodies ...

Have you watched I Love You Man?
No I was thinking that the first movie we watch together should be Brokeback Mountain.

I don't think that'll send any odd signals. Do you?

Just two dudes hanging out watching good, Oscar winning cinema.

I might light a couple candles before he comes over. You all know how much I love candles. That's just a regular dude thing.

That's just a regular dude on dude thing.

Watch I Love You Man. It’s about an adult guy trying to find a male friend. It’s really good.

And for the record, I’d meet you for fish tacos if we lived in the same town,
Injust wouldn’t go back to the storage locker.

I'll check it out.

And for the record, we're all already friends so it doesn't count as making new guy friends. Even though we're internet friends, at this point I'd be happy to meet any one of you...even the architects and the Canadians.

Sorry you had to catch some shrapnel there I'drather...hey catching shrapnel, that's something I can talk to my new marine friend about. Hah.
