by my crude calculations, where i just assume everything i bought would be $4 in shipping cost, i have saved $64 since i got prime in august. so i'm on track to more than pay for prime with the shipping alone, forget about the free video, music and ebooks.

Got an Amazon gift card for Christmas this evening, used it to buy a record player.

All I need now is some records, may hit up a few of the local used places, and maybe Goodwill since they have a decent selection, after the first of the year.
I hope you plan to actually listen to records with it. Many people buy those USB record players just to convert their albums to mp3s.

No it's an actual record player. I will buy some records after I get it.

I think vinyl albums are cool as a collectible, but I'm not wanting to listen to them anymore.
I'm perfectly fine listening to songs in digital format.

I still have a few LP's from my youth, but I never really believed the sound quality was superior, let alone decent. That whole needle friction thing as nostalgia doesn't work for me.

Without going into full audiophile mode, let me explain. In the early days of recording, mixing, and mastering digitally, there was a loss of resolution at each step, so the final product was crappy in quality. Add to that the super-cheap electronics they put in the CD players, and the result was worse than good analog. It's a lot like making enlargements from early digital cameras, or seeing artifacts on an LCD TV.

Digital recording and playback eventually surpassed analog, but there's still a difference between cheap digital and cheap analog, with the latter sounding more pleasant and musical to many. For the most part though, people play vinyl today for the emotional experience.
