New Hampshire has:

Dummer
Dixville Notch
Bath

and Campton (it's fun to change NWA lyrics from Compton to Campton!)
We also have Bath, but it's a big coastal town where people actually live, and home to Bath Iron Works, the shipbuilders.

Maine towns named for foreign countries and cities:
Athens
Belgrade
Bremen
Calais - pronounced CAL-us
China
Denmark
Dresden
Lebanon
Lisbon
Lubec
Madrid
Mexico
Moscow
Naples
New Sweden
Norway
Palermo

Wow, man, in Calaveras County in northern California there's, like, an unincorporated community named Bummerville. Can you dig it?

When I worked for another company, they used to send me up to Easton to pick up frozen French Fries. I think they were for Arby’s, and I would take them to a cold storage facility in Bethlehem, PA.
And here it is

I like how there's a town in Maine called "New Canada", right near the Canadian border. Reminds me of the New Jersey town of "West New York", which is just outside of NYC.

I don't think it was made for distinction. People came from there and wanted a new version of what they had before. In Ontario, they just omitted the New and called it York or London. York was eventually renamed Toronto. London is still there.

I believe New York was originally New Amsterdam, but I'm too lazy to see why. Perhaps 98 will enlighten us.

"Istanbul (Not Constantinople)"

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

However,

New Amsterdam was a 17th-century Dutch colonial settlement on the southern tip of Manhattan Island that served as capital city of New Netherland. It was renamed New York in 1665 in honor of the Duke of York (later James II of England) when English forces seized control of Manhattan along with the rest of the Dutch colony. “People” did not just like it better that way. The conquering English nobility liked it better that way.

My boys took their home state of Vermont and Dave took his home state of Virginia so all is right in the world.

It's kind of surprising the Eagles took California.

Also, Nirvana didn't take Washington State? That's interesting.
