When I'm down south and snow and ice come, I don't go out. Not because I can't drive or function in it, I'm afraid of all the idiots out there who have no clue what they are doing.

The first couple of snows are like that up here too. The morons seem to forget over the summer that snow and ice mean that you need to slow down a bit. Every year they forget.... :clueless:

Houston closed all the schools, government, busses, everything. Then the forecast changed and it isn't expected to freeze today at all.

Just closed all our schools and we're only expecting a dusting to 2"

I think they're partly doing it for safety, but mainly so all kids can get home in time to enjoy this with their families- we just don't get this opportunity very often!! Let it snow!!

Reminder- may be a good time to spend a little time on 24/7 Holly Ch 781 Holly - SiriusXM Radio

Yesterday may have been the only day in US history, where you could have traveled from Miami to Northern Minnesota and experienced a 110 degree temperature change!

Stranded motorists spend nights on freeways after snow blankets South - CNN.com

Going around Atlanta, even when the weather is good, is a pita, let alone 2-3in of snow :(

This is the part that gets me ...

Unheeded warnings

Everyone had been warned. Atlanta was expecting 1-2 inches. But people did not heed the forecast.

In the morning, when the snow had not arrived, people went to work and school, like nothing was coming.

Then it did.

Motorists panicked at around the same time in the afternoon. They clogged the streets en masse just as they began icing over.

In the end 2-3.5 inches hit central Georgia. That may not sound like much, but it's usually how much snow falls in the region in a whole year, said CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward.

Stay safe out there, peoples. There is no need to travel when the weather gets bad. Have you bread, milk, & eggs on hand & just hunker down until the weather, and roads, get better :)

It's easy to think we overreacted here in S. Louisiana by shutting down schools and business places, but we are not experiencing the crisis that Atlanta went through. Traffic was reportedly very light all day yesterday in NOLA.

We've barely had a dusting so far. They're calling for up to eight inches Wednesday night into Thursday.

It's going to be farking cold, but at least the roads are clear.

I'm off to Columbus tomorrow, or I'd suggest lunch or something.

Understand- we NEVER get a forecast like that here in South Carolina :bitingnails:

Dood, I know what you are going through... and more. I spent the winter of '78/'79 in Chicago- Great Lakes Naval Training Center. We were just 200 ft from Lake Michigan and had 103 inches of snow that year with wind chills at -80 for several days. There were snow-drifts over 30 ft on our base and we had to dig tunnels to get around! I think that would take the cake for Worst Winter Ever! Look it up- Taylor(who lives in Chi-town) and I have been comparing that winter and this winter and it may be a toss-up :buttrock:
