Call it supply and demand
That's what it comes down to. I can drive 15 minutes to the Rt. 1 business district in Portsmouth where there are a bunch of competing gas stations, and get the lowest price (but only for regular, which neither of our cars takes anymore). But if I'm not planning to be in the area anyway, it's stupid to drive there just for gas. Or I can stop at a place that's conveniently on the way from my house to the highway, and pay 20 - 50 cents more per gallon. But they're not charging more just because they're assholes. They get a much lower volume of customers, so they need to charge more to make a profit.

By the way, I usually get gas at a place that's between my house and the highway, and has the best price for plus and super. So it's a no-brainer for me.

Which leaves only New Jersey….
You know, as stupid as that law is, it's actually nice to pull into a gas station, and have someone pump it for you. And Jersey has cheap gas, so it's not like you're paying a premium for the service.

The variation in prices is affected by where a station is located regarding customer volume, proximity to highways, and competition. I don't think anyone cares about what the residents of a town earn. But land costs and property taxes might have an effect.
In Scranton, the stations on the interstate were about 7 cents per gallon more then one 5 blocks down the road,

I think I mentioned this a long time ago on here, but I dated a girl back in 1990 whose mother had never pumped her own gas. There was a full-serve near her house and she always made sure to fill up there. Even back then, there weren't a lot of full-serve stations around so if you forgot and got low on gas, you could be stranded if you can't get back home in time!

The price of a gallon of gasoline in Los Angeles County has risen for six consecutive days and now averages $5.03, the highest since November 2022. In Orange County – the one southeast of Los Angeles County, not the one in Florida – a gallon of gas averages $4.96.

Our neighbors (the doctors) just had a Tesla Model Y delivered to their house on a flatbed. Then they loaded her Volvo SUV on the flatbed and took it away. They never had to leave their house. Now they have a Model S and a Model Y. No more gas-burning cars.

When we first moved into the neighborhood, they had a 5-Series BMW, the Volvo SUV, and a Mini Cooper. The BMW got trucked down to their Florida home, and the Tesla Model S was driven up here. Then recently, they sold the Mini Cooper. And now they're gasless. The Model Y is white. My Father-in-law disliked electric cars, and hated any car that was white. He said that appliances should be white. This new Model Y is the very definition of an appliance.

This supports my theory that the rich assholes who used to be identified by driving a BMW can now be identified by driving a Tesla.

It seems that even rich assholes like to boast about getting a good deal. The guy was just telling me that the car lists for $52k (which is a moderate price for a Tesla), and they get a $7,500 tax credit, plus the $9,000 trade-in for the Volvo makes the overall cost $35.5k. It's practically free.

Penny (shown below sticking her head out the car window) has her own opinion on the matter. (Note: we talk for the dog; she has a high, inquisitive voice).

Penny: "Where's Charlie?" (the neighbor's cock-a-poo)
Mrs. Scotch: "Charlie's in Florida with his parents, the doctors".
Penny: "Can we go to Florida to see Charlie?"
Mrs.: "No, Penny. Charlie's parents have a place in Florida. We don't have a place in Florida".
Penny: "Well, maybe if dad studied a little harder in college, we'd have a place in Florida too".

Sometimes rich people try to "apologize" to regular folks by rationalizing that they aren't flaunting their cash.

I often wonder how many opportunities I miss to go on the green light because the slow vehicles in front of me are either distracted, have otherwise slow reaction times, or just don’t know how to accelerate. It’s green, punch it, GO!

The incidences of people not seeing the light turn green because they're looking at their phones and/or texting have grown exponentially. My rule is count to 5 (not really 5 seconds, but close), then hit the horn (briefly). What amazes me is how many people are pissed-off at me for discreetly pointing this out to them. How about next time I lay on the horn and yell "Hey Fuckhead! Pause the porn and Move!"
