Gasoline prices in Los Angeles County rose for 33 straight days – but yesterday they dropped by three tenths of a cent. Wooh! A gallon of gas now costs, on average, $6.49. At the Chevron station on Glenoaks Blvd. in Glendale, the price is $6.70. At the nearby Arco, it's $6.19.

Just watch.

It's going to be like watching the stock market graph.
Over the next 7 or 8 years it will continue to climb at a noticeably higher rate than we're used to seeing.
There will be ups and downs along the way, but it'll be up, up, up.
Why would they try to keep prices low when they will be selling less product?
They have no incentive. They (like any business) want to keep making a higher profit each year.

I agree that the long-term trend will be like you're saying. But the week-to-week changes are unrelated. In this case, the start of home heating demand is having an impact, as is the announcement of cutbacks from OPEC.

And as I've said before, gasoline has been kept artificially low in this country for decades. If it had gone up with inflation over the years, we'd be paying $8 or $10 per gallon by now (like they do in Europe).

Sure enough.

$8 - $10 / gallon will have everyone screaming for electric cars, and it’ll happen sooner than most people think.

We‘re at $3.99 here today.

If people can't afford $8/gallon for gas, they can't afford to purchase a new car with a $10K premium on it. Assuming they can, you are assuming electric cars can fill all their needs. If they travel more than 1 hour out of the city they need to plan their charging stops. Also, they need to have a way to charge them. I don't know about down where you are but electricity rates are going through the roof. Also some areas (I am looking at California) have asked people not to charge their cars at night because they can't handle the load of electric cars + A/C. Expect this to become more common.

One a side note, I have a question: why every electric car is not covered in solar panels?

I believe the roofs of some electric cars are solar. But that's expensive, so it's probably just the higher priced ones.

You make good points, but most people stay within an hour of where they live with electric cars.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not ready for a fully electric car yet, but I think that plug-in hybrids are a great transition car till they get all of the details worked out for full electrics.

A friend of mine was dating a guy with a Tesla, and they drove to Florida. I think she said they only needed to stop once or twice to charge. They planned it around a dinner break in Georgia or something. She said it was very surprising how not inconvenient it was. And this was 4 or 5 years ago.

I had lunch today with a friend of mine from another architects office, and they have a client that owns a lot of businesses, one of which is gas stations. He said that they have been installing charging stations at the gas stations lately.

I think that the time is coming sooner than later that ev’s are going to be very practical, the prices will become more reasonable, and it Will be easy to find places to charge Up.

The infrastructure problems are going to come to a head soon too, and I’m imagining that there will be a massive push to finally invest in the necessary upgrades. Unfortunately, that will take years to accomplish.

"I don't think I've ever been flipped off in my life as much as I have in the past year or so."
"It's almost always a guy in a pickup truck"

The Telsa's I have seen are cruising along at 100kph (60 mph) in the left lane happy to show everybody they are driving a Tesla while we have to go the fuck around them. In my experience Tesla drivers seem to be even more obnoxious than BMW drivers if that is even possible.

I haven't had any of those experiences. The Prius is the typical car to be doing 60 in the left lane. Tesla owners have money; I tend to see them flying along, passing by me, on their way to their important lives. And other than the occasional dick weaving through traffic, I don't see anything that stands out about BMWs vs 100 other brands of cars. There was a time - many years ago - where BMWs were among the most capable upscale cars, and therefore the top choice for privileged assholes who felt it was more important that they get where they're going than you. But nowadays, you can buy almost anything with enough power to be a dick on the highway.

For the past few months, I been mainly working from home. Once in a while, I might drive out to the job site or run a few errands. My partner and I discuss and basically, I been throwing money away on making a car payment. Plus my car started to have a few problems. Like the back doors electrical feature didn't lock anymore, issues with the sunroof, somehow my one of my rims was dented and the tire was leaking air, I think something might be going on in the engine and whatever else.

I probably owe a like eight thousand dollars+ left on my used 2016 Buick Encore. I checked the KBB value and saw the car is suppose to worth close to 11k? I took it to the dealership and they looked it over, thought of maybe selling it. Lucky they didn't notice any major issues and offer me the full KBB value. I decided to sell my vehicle and got a check for about $2k.

My partner and I are now a one car family, which feels weird not making car and insurance payments. Couple weeks ago the autoshow was in town and we went down to there to check some out. We were a bit disappointment, because half of the manufactures were not there like Buick, GMC, Honda, Cadillac, Subaru, Honda, Lexus, Volkswagen, etc. and there was no other autoshow in any of there other halls?

My ultimate dream car are Lexus, I have been checking out the new Chevy Blazers especially the EV's and when I saw them in person I wasn't much impressed. The two car companies, I really like were Hyundai and Kia. Sometime in 2023, I do plan on buy a new car with a good major down payment and get my credit score up a bit more. Which I been paying off my credit card debt and helping out my partner out a bit. Basically now if ever need the car for the day. I drive him to work and pick him up.

Yeah, it's a great time to trade-in your car now, but not such a great time to buy a new one. Sounds like a good idea to share a car for now.

Those new Hyundai Ionics are pretty slick.

I guess this is car talk cause I only notice it when I'm driving. The lights aren't as purple as the look on this article but they def have a purple hue to them. I simply assumed it was some sort of new type of safety feature or something. Turns out is just a manufacturer defect.
