Another Javelinas band released two albums, one in 2005 and one in 2007. They played at several clubs and festivals in Chicago and the midwest.

Our Costco hasn’t had the self-checkouts very long. I don‘t mind them there since I usually don’t buy a lot of stuff. It’s usually better than waiting in line behind people with a hundred items in their cart.

I hate the one at Kroger. The little wench in the machine is a nag!!! Nag, nag, nag, nag, NAG! As soon as you scan something, she instantly says to put the item in the bag. Every item, instantly, put it in the bag. Put it in the bag. PUT IT IN THE BAG!!!!
I‘ve scanned my Kroger card, they know who the hell I am, they should know that I know how to use the freaking scanner. Isn’t AI supposed learning from us?

The biggest supermarket chain in this part of New England is Market Basket, and they don't do self checkout. They have an endless supply of young girl cashiers and bagger boys to keep 18 registers open all the time. But at our local Hannaford in York, they have an expectedly pleasant circle of self-checkout registers, and plenty of people available to approve my liquor purchases.

We also do self-checkout at Target, which goes smoothly too; although they have one of those bald-head cams right in front of you. We don't use the annoying Wal-Mart registers too often.

I do self checkouts wherever possible. At Walmart they closed down the ones for lots of items. Everybody goes to the "express" side now. They have 2 or 3 employees watching all the transactions. I think they found that self checkout fraud was quite high. I went with a full basket once and they tried to tell me I should go/have gone to the full checkout. I told them if they had more than 1 working and the lineup wasn't from hell, I would consider that but since that wasn't happening and the lineup was from hell I was going to do it here and I did.

One of the local grocery stores routinely puts out an ad saying now hiring: bag boy

I’m thinking how old fashioned do you have to be to not notice that term seems dated

Both of my daughters have worked at Market Basket. At one point, I realized that 90% of the cashiers were girls, and 95% of the baggers were boys. It's very old-school. Also, boys have to be clean-shaven, and no piercings are allowed.

They can get away with it, because for every kid working there, there are 2 more who want to.
