It's a different situation back then than it is today. Back then it was who was more trustworthy to report the news as it is (Walter Cronkite), now it's whose more Sensationalistic and opinionated (Rachel Maddow, Tucker Carlson, etc.) And even back then you had 3 channels reporting the news, and didn't have the 24 hour news cycle you do now. When CNN came around, that started to change, and then when you had two more networks come on the scene that were decidedly slanted to either side (MSNBC and FoxNews) that got kicked into overdrive. With these news operations it seems to be more about making the news than reporting it.

Until sometime in the 80s, it was against FCC rule to have a bias or present a biased view without providing equal time to opposing view. It as removed and that birthed cable news (FOX, CNN, MSNBC) and ended any TV news from being corporate influence free.
It's weird I'm asking the Canadian this but don't we still have the same rule for presidential contests? Like each candidate has to have the same amount of air time? At least I think I remember that from, maybe it was the 90s?

I know there was always a rebuttle to the State Of The Union or whatever address he makes. And I think the same when he sits at his desk and makes an announcement and pre-empts or delays everybody's favourite tv show.

Today, if you run an ad for a product that makes false claims, you get shut down. The FDA told Nutella they couldn't claim their stuff is nutritional, so they had to change their ads. But for political ads, there's some freedom act which mandates that those ads are free to say whatever they want, without any censorship or scrutiny. Makes sense, eh?

I decided that instead of posting this in the animal thread, it should be here. Why is there a golf course in the Sedona desert? The grass is totally unnatural, and requires a ridiculous amount of water to be piped in. Let the Javelinas have it.
