For your amazement and amusement, here is Kids Now's 2008 recording of the French folk song J'ai Perdu Le Do De Ma Clarinette ("I lost the C on my clarinet"). Feel free to sing along.

J'ai perdu le do de ma clarinette
Ah, si papa savait ça, tra la-la
Il dirait "ohé"
Il chanterait "ohé"
Au pas, camarade, au pas, camarade
Au pas, au pas, au pas

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Wonderful Architecture Work thread.

I remember when you posted the photo of your newest clarinet a couple of years ago.

You allowed that but the time I dm'd you and asked you if it would be okay to post the picture of me after I was the recipient of a 100 man bukkake party you said it was inappropriate.

Freaking double standard Hectic.

I don't recall ever seeing a picture of this but I may have missed it.

It looks like you have mentioned it. I just never committed it to memory.
It was part of this story from the Musical Instrument thread, which talks about nothing other than the clarinet

So here's some good news, that I'll share with a long-winded story. I believe I once told the saga of the clarinet that I've been playing all these years - both in high school (back in the day), and now in the community band - so I won't repeat it here. The upshot is that I've been using the same clarinet, that was an old piece of crap back in the late 70's. Upon joining my first community band 15 years ago, the family had it overhauled; new pads, corks, lubed, polished the keys and reconditioned the wood. Since then, it's worked ok for a while, and then it gets increasingly harder to get certain notes out of it, because the thing is constantly in decay. I've had it worked on twice, and now it again doesn't play, even when I spend time warming it up.

Mrs. Scotch is always harping on me to replace it, but I figured my choices were either new (around $2,000 and up), or used but reconditioned (ready to play), which I thought would be a grand or so. I was focused on the professional grade of the top brand clarinet, because I wanted to be sure that I was stepping up in quality. But I realized I could get what they call an intermediate level of the same brand, and it would still be an instrument that would function and sound 95% the same as the pro model.

So for the past few weeks, I've been looking online, and it looked like I could get something decent for $500 or so. But then I thought, why don't I do a local area search? It couldn't hurt, right? And there it was, on the resale site Reverb.com; a beautiful, reconditioned intermediate level Buffet Evette clarinet, $499, for sale from a local music store in Amherst NH (@sadchild's neck of the woods). I called them up, and the guy sounded exactly like the laid-back musician you'd expect. He said I can come play it, and they'd even take my old clarinet in trade. I hadn't even thought of that!

The clarinet plays effortlessly. No straining or doing tricks to get certain notes out. And it sounds beautiful. The guy even gave me $100 for my shitty, 1960's (or older) Boosey and Hawkes London-built thing. I only wish I had done this a long time ago. Here's what it looks like

And it's one of about 20 posts I made in recent times about it.

Icing on the cake is not an annoying phrase.

Cakes by themselves are delicious sweet bread and then putting icing on top of them makes them better.

So it is a statement of fact that one can use in everyday life as an appropriate metaphor.

Such as how in this case Scotch plays clarinet which is super masculine hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahHahahhahahahahahahahHahahahhhahahahahahahha and it also happens to be giantly long and black.

IRBS, I can compare apples to oranges, noting their similarities and their differences. I don't like people saying they're comparing apples to oranges when they are doing no such thing. I wonder if Mister scotch plays the Béla Fleck composaition Clarinet Polka.

You know how Mick Jagger and Bowie probably fucked each other? In their situation it's like they've had every single famous model ever and then they're sitting around in a room together and they're like huh. I wonder what this would be like. That makes some sense to me.

Same with the Eagles getting full sleeve tattoos all and all across their chest and back and everything like that seems ridiculous and stupid. But if you're a pro athlete it makes sense to me for some reason.

What doesn't make sense to me is why scotch who is a respected member of his community, and lives in normal non-celebrity society to choose a an instrument that he knew would label him a deviant and then also to openly discuss it.

Here's you and I talking about me playing clarinet back in 2015.

So excuse me if these hilarious jokes of yours seem a bit stale.

First of all, this proves nothing. It was the 4th of July thread from 10 years ago and I said the same thing I said yesterday when I heard you played net (That's what we call it on the street } which was oh shit, I forget you ever mentioned that..... And then it was the 4th of July so I was all caught up and being patriotic and I forgot that I should tease you about it.

Second of all, when have I ever made a joke in this forum that isn't stale? Are you really expecting Chris Rock caliber material? I mean shit. If I get a tenth of the way towards Dane Cook material, I'm on the right track.

But that shit ain't going to stop me and you brought this on yourself. I was mocking hectic and you were like hey why aren't I catching any shrapnel for clarinet and engineering. Engineering is cool by the way. I made that very clear and I still think that it is cool.

But you should have hid your shame about the clarinet. It would have been better for all of us.

I first discussed the clarinet with Casual in 2014. Then with you a year later. Then another 25 or 30 times since then. So it's kinda like me coming out of a cave and getting all freaked-out to hear that you like going to an amusement park for kids. It's played.

And besides, wtf can you do? Can you play clarinet, or guitar, or drums, or trumpet, or piano? Do you even know how to read music? Have you ever performed in a concert with 65 other musicians? Or do you just sit at home and rent Phish concert videos?
