I was ready to complain about Warren Zevon not being in, but apparently he was inducted in '23. Shows how much I've been paying attention.

Phish WHATEVER

You both suck. The greatest band ever with the greatest guitarist and three other elite musicians who also could be argued to be the best ever in rock and roll, is finally going to get in.

But I see your point, the Hall is clearly pandering to the younger crowd with this nomination. They've only been the greatest rock and roll band ever....and by far the greatest jam band ever, for 41 years.

I'm not saying that they aren't great musicians, just that, to me, they aren't groundbreaking or innovative enough or iconic enough to be in a hall of fame.
That said, the hall of shame is dead to me because they keep ignoring groundbreaking and innovative bands to induct crap bands to try to boost ticket sales.

Okay, I can argue that point and I'm obviously incredibly biased. I know that going in.

I would easily put Trey in the top 10 all time rock guitarists. Obviously he's my number one but I understand like Hendrix and Page and others were better.

But then we have to look at who changed the genre more than phish? Before Phish there was the Greatful Dead and they were obviously more influenced by folk, blues and country than phish.

Phish May ramble on with their jams. Way more than people who aren't into them can understand but I think everybody can understand they are in their heart, rock and roll. I mean they have some bluegrass. They have a little bit of jazz but Phish is a rock and roll jam band.

Also, their whole thing about touring over studio records and radio play is kind of a big deal. I mean they were all about letting people just tape their shows from when they got popular enough for people to want to tape them up till now. You could just bring a tape recorder on a stick and tape their show. I mean it's stupid now because you can get the sound board releases straight from them but back then you couldn't. they encouraged fans to do it and then they encouraged fans to trade shows and there was a whole fucking economy of trading phish shows I was part of it in high school. I traded phish tapes with random people I met on message boards that that believe it or not were dumber than this one where we just sent each other cassette tapes in the mail.

Plus there has to be something said about a band that's been around for 41 years. I know they took a hiatus and they broke up for a couple years in the aughts but they've mostly been together the entire time.

And I know you can't really say this about a band that is being inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. But they didn't get huge until right around the time Jerry died. They were obviously the heir apparent to the godfather of jam bands. They sold out their first arena in 1994 and Jerry died in 95. And they are selling out arenas to this. They sold out MSG for the 2024 New Year's run which was four shows in a row. So from 83 to 94 most people didn't know about them. I certainly didn't. I went to my first show as a high school sophomore so I was 16 and it was 1999. And I've been obsessed ever since.

That leads me to the next point. The obsessive fucking devotion their fans have to them. It's like the goddamn Beatles or some shit. Or I don't know what other bands have obsession like that that K-pop band and that's all in the military right now. Bands are like that and fish have had that with a group of people that are my age to 5 years older or 5 years younger for their entire run.

Also without fish there wouldn't be goose which is clearly the next heir apparent jam band. Along with the tens of other smaller jam bands that still sell out and he turned so many people on to jam band pure rock.

Bad Company - YES!! They aren't in by now?

The Black Crowes - Eventually.

Mariah Carey - Questionable, but if Janet Jackson is in, she should be in, especially considering it's the Rock and Roll Hall of FAME!

Chubby Checker - It's a war crime that he's not in by now!!!

Joe Cocker - Yes!

Billy Idol - Yes!

Joy Division/New Order - Yes!

Cyndi Lauper - Maybe not first year of eligibility, but yes. One of the pillars of the MTV generation.

Maná - Never heard of them (him/her?) but if we're talking Latin acts, Los Lobos (and I dare say Selena) should be first.

Oasis - Yeah

Outkast - Not first ballot, but yes.

Phish - Not first ballot

Soundgarden - Yes! One of the originators of Grunge alongside Nirvana (who's in) and Pearl Jam (who's also in)

The White Stripes - For songwriting and influence on multiple genres (Country and Rock) absolutely! Jack White should make it on his own eventually for the same reasons.

Put Oasis and the Black Crowes in at the same time and see which brother act they can prevent from killing each other.

Styx had seven top-ten hits including the number-one Babe and they've sold more than 54,000,000 albums. Styx has been eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame since 1998 – and has never been nominated!

I wonder if Loverboy lead singer Mike Reno is ashamed of this schlocky duet he did with with Ann Wilson:
