I'll do a throwback Thursday, with the master of the groove - Stevie Wonder
Boogie On Reggae Woman
Sent from Tapatalk
New Parquet Courts, from the album Human Performance
Berlin Got Blurry
Human Performance (the title track)
Heard this on the drive home yesterday, brought back memories
Genesis - Turn It On Again (you can skip the 2nd half)
Good songs. I like the second one best
This week on Sirius XMU Sessions (their live interview/ performance program), they have Natasha Khan from Bat For Lashes, doing songs from their new album. And while I don't have a live version of that, I wanted to put-up something that shows what an incredible talent she is. She's simply one of the best live vocalists around.
This is Bat For Lashes performing Laura, one of their most well-known songs. Hope you can handle a "sensitive" tune.
She is a very good singer
Heard this on the radio this morning. It reminded me of how influential he was, and how totally obsessed I was with the album Strange Cargo III
William Orbit – Water From A Vine Leaf (with Beth Orton)
Orbit went on to write and produce this, from the hit album
Madonna – Ray of Light
Good stuff. Always like Ray Of Light.
Water from a vine leaf reminds me of early 90s pop. Something like from Enya. Art of Noise & the like
I dig William Orbit.
Strange Cargo is a great album. Strange Cargo II is good too.
"Ray of Light" was ALMOST produced by Trent Reznor. I can only imagine the spin he would have put on it. Not a huge Madonna fan, but that is her best work by far.
I'll continue with the 60's theme. These guys were a big part of my formative musical years.
Blood, Sweat, & Tears - Smiling Phases
Love that jazz exploration
Heard a song this morning that reminded me how great the Smashing Pumpkins were, during the 1st half of the 90's. Their first 3 albums, each released 2 years apart, were all genius. But it all started with Gish, and this song was their breakout hit
Smashing Pumpkins - Rhinoceros
Much of their success was due to the tremendous talent of their 4 original members, who could really rock!
Smashing Pumpkins – Siva (live)
Damn. Billy Corgan has hair.
Good stuff. I really like Rhinoceros
Billy doesn't get enough respect as a guitar player or a song writer.
He's got a new signature model guitar that's pretty badass.
I've got a couple from the same company (Reverend Guitars, based in sunny exotic Toledo, Ohio.) It's getting some killer reviews.
smashing pumpkins were one of my first ever concerts. not sure if they were the second or third...green day dookie tour was #1 but i do know it was somewhere around there. good old philly spectrum.
Here's a band that hit the scene in 2015, and is coming on strong in 2016. Possessing the odd name of Car Seat Headrest, and initially being known only by the interesting-but-overplayed Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales, I was first lukewarm to them. But other songs now getting airplay from their 2016 album Teens Of Denial, are proving them to be a refreshingly talented band. And performances of songs from their 2015 debut album (which can be seen on YouTube) show that they can really write and perform great original music. Some people say the lead singer sounds a bit like Ray Davies. To me, they sound like garage rockers elevated to the next level.
This song is currently getting radio airplay
Car Seat Headrest - Fill In The Blank (live)
And this is their breakout hit song
Car Seat Headrest - Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
I've heard them on XMU.
I'll have to listen to these closer later.
