Greg Kihn's death made me think of Jeopardy, which is on hiatus. But in closely related news, there's this

It contained this moment, which was entertaining as a player of Scrabble and Words With Friends

The 15th and final question was: “Not including blanks or bonus spaces, the highest-valued three-letter Scrabble word is ‘zax,’ which is a what?” Stumped on the answer, Ike and Alan decided to use the Ask the Host lifeline to get Jimmy Kimmel’s input.

“I’m gonna tell you somethin’ that’s gonna blow your mind,” Kimmel, 56, told Ike and his dad. “You may have won ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ but I won a big celebrity Scrabble tournament here in LA.” Kimmel surmised that the answer was option D: “Tool for cutting roofing slates.”

All the program guides listed the jeopardy time slot as "To be announced". But it's actually the new season of jeopardy.

I just heard a contestant tell a story of how their middle school hall monitor became a serial killer. That's the first thing they think of talking about?

If my hall monitor turned into a serial killer, it would be pretty high on my list of topics of discussion.

But it's such a downer of a topic, and it's completely unrelated to the contestant. I've heard them talk about running into a big celebrity, and that tends to get a good reaction. But this contestant literally ended her story with "and they found 7 bodies under his basement". That was followed by a brief pause, as no one knew how to follow that, and then Jennings said something like "well good to have you here". Uncomfortable.

Obliviously the contestant did not properly know how to turn it into a joke.

Last night's Jeopardy was really entertaining. The reigning champ - who is married to the author of the bestseller Lessons in Chemistry, now a miniseries on AppleTV+ - was being blown-away by a quick-witted pretty-boy from Hawaii, until the champ got both Daily Doubles correct in Double Jeopardy. People are saying the kid from Hawaii should get into the 2nd chance tournament.

I need to remember to start watching it again. I got out of the habit with the summer reruns.
We watch a local newsmagazine show on an NBC affiliate at 7 pm, and then normally switch to Jeopardy on an ABC affiliate at 7:30 pm. When they were in reruns, we'd leave it on NBC, which ironically airs Inside Edition; a show that seems to kill thousands of brain cells for every minute we watch.

Another game where the guy running away with the game blows it in the end. They all got final wrong, and the leader bet the amount he'd need to win if he and the challenger got it right (if she had bet it all). But they got it wrong, and she bet almost nothing.
