This exact countdown played 3 years ago. I wasn't posting on this forum yet.
40. THE SEDUCTION - JAMES LAST BAND
"Last is reported to have sold an estimated 200 million albums worldwide in his lifetime." And this is the first I've ever heard of him.
37. ONLY A LONELY HEART SEES - FELIX CAVALIERE
Reminds me of Elton John a bit
36. SET ME FREE - UTOPIA
Singing with Todd Rundgren here in Utopia is a dude named Kasim Sulton. He did a song for the Susanna Hoffs disaster The Allnighter named "No TV No Phone" with Thommy Price (featuring Elliot Easton of The Cars) under the name Price-Sulton. I loved that song at the time, but eventually forgot about it. Years later (before the internet) I couldn't find it again. Finally in 2016, I found it on YouTube! I shared it on the 80s on 8 FB page and Martha Quinn not only commented on it that day a few times, she mentioned Utopia in one of her comments. She also shared it on her own page. Here is the song I lost for 30 years. Even if you hate the song, it's worth fast-forwarding to 1:00, trust me!
28. AND THE BEAT GOES ON - THE WHISPERS
Will Smith "Miami"
#43 Korona "Let Me Be"
Looked this one up out of curiosity (as I sometimes do with songs that almost crack the top 40). There is no entry for Korona in Wikipedia (though after some digging I found this). The song dropped (to sound like Nina for a second here) 'a whopping 30 spots' the next week to #73, then dropped to #94. I did find the song on YouTube and man what a stinker!
Won't make the top 40
#43 Korona "Let Me Be"
#45 Mac Davis "It's Hard To Be Humble"
#51 Off Broadway USA "Stay In Time"
#55 Jennifer Warnes "When The Feeling Comes Around"
#58 Red Rider "White Hot"
#62 Knack "Can't Put A Price On Love"
#69 Fools "It's A Night (For Beautiful Girls)"
#70 Survivor "Somewhere In America"
#78 B-52s "Rock Lobster"
#80 Tom Petty "Here Comes My Girl"
#81 John Denver "Autograph"
#85 Humble Pie "Fool For A Pretty Face"
#91 Styx "Borrowed Time"
#95 Grace Slick "Seasons"
#96 Beach Boys "Goin' On"
