I was 10 so I don't remember it but it should be stated that this was 6 days before Nelson Mandela was elected President of South Africa.

Kinda a huge day in the history of mankind.

No specific memories. Below coveres my memories of March 1994 wich was 1.5 months before.

1994/12/21

On this specific date, I was probably either preparing to leave for or on the way back to Saskatoon, SK to visit my parents. By 1994 they had left Regina, SK and moved to Saskatoon. While I was single I went home every Christmas ever since I left Regina in 1985. The first Christmas I did not come home was in 1998 when I visited my then girlfriend in Kansas. In 1999, I came home one last time (at Chistmas) with my future wife and her family in a Christmas vacation which was similar to Clark Grizawald's Christmas experience without the humour and the destruction of the house. As to 1994, this visit was unspectacular so not a embedded in my memory.

Prior to this date, I likely had enjoyed 3 or 4 weekends of skiing in Ontario. Weekend day trips. I was part of a ski club and this was one of the perks. You did pay for the lift passes but discounted and they bussed you there and back and provided lessons. And you met lots of other similar single people who became your ski buddies.

Earlier in 1994 I went on one of my most memorable ski trips to Vale, CO. It was my first time skiing at altitude. The trips were also arranged though the ski club. You paid the fee and they provided everything else except for food. The organizer arranged the condo sharing with 2 guys and 2 girls each sharing one condo. Usually 2 bedrooms, one with bunk beds one with a double bed. A day before we left on the trip, the guy (who I had skiied with in Ontario) got a bad case of the flu. He said I was planning to try to come later but that never materialized. So I was sharing a condo with 2 single attractive females. I was in the room with the bunk beds as if my friend actually showed up it is more acceptable for females to share a single double bed than males. Before you get any ideas, I was a perfect gentleman and both of these girls had boyfriends who for some reason did not accompany them on the trip. I think they didn't ski or some silly excuse. It did not stop other people from expressing their envy at my situation.

After we got off the plane in Denver, we stopped at a grocery store where each cabin party picked up groceries for the week. Basically breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Dinners were almost always somewhere else. I skied with my roommates for some of the trip. They weren't as advanced as me at the time and they didn't last the whole day. It didn't matter much for the first couple of days. I could barely do 3 or 4 turns before I had to stop and catch my breath. At 11K feet, there is significantly less O2 than at the level of Toronto.

I did meet some other people on the trip as well. There were some other people I had skied with before and skied with them some days. Also did dinners with various groups over the week. The weather was good all week. Sunny and increasingly warm as the week wore on. We had just missed a snowstorm when we arrived. I have heard that I70 though Vale can be treacherous at times in the winter and frequently closed. We were lucky.

In 1995 shortly after Christmas 1994, I did a ski trip to Big Sky, MT. It was a good week as well but not as much fun.

Note, I am likely deviating from the premise of this exercise but I am enjoying it.

My younger daughter (who was born 3 months prematurely) had turned 1, and I was dealing with her, and my disintegrating marriage to the ex.

This was less than a month after I scored the Public Storage gig.

Going for that random interview changed my life.

I got the coolest girl ever...and kinda seduced my boss which will always give me a sense of pride.

And it gave me a more or less free 2/1 condo and pretty sweet job.

2021/10/14

This was the Thursday after the week my wife did her first round of radiation for her brain cancer. She did Chemo in 2020 and since her body would not take more chemo, radiation was the next only option. The radiation eventually took her mobility but that took about 6 weeks. So she was still mobile (with walker at this time). Nothing much happened on this date but on the 15th my daughter and her husband came up to visit from Columbus. We invited a whole bunch of friends and family and we had a huge meal at the Spaghetti Factory. This was in the middle of Covid protocols. Everyone at the restaurant had to wear a mask and show proof of vaccination. One of my wife's friends was not particularly tech savy and had not downloaded her certificate. This weekend was also the weekend where the Health department did an upgrade of their website so it was not available. We eventually just snuck her in. It was a good dinner. The first of 3 at the Spaghetti Factory that fall. My sister and my mother-in-law came to visit at different times. After these 3 my wife refused to do the Spaghetti Factory again as she said she was sick of it.

10.14.21

Earlier in the month, I got the new (to me) clarinet. We didn't go anywhere for our anniversary (19th), but on the following weekend, our cousins from NY (who have the place in VT) spent the weekend. I remember we went to a restaurant where we ate outside (they didn't want to sit inside), and it was very cold. (They're actually coming back in two weeks.) And at the end of the month, we had the driveway paved.

Edit: With my Google Timeline, I can provide amazingly interesting additional details.

- 10/12/21 (Tues): I drove in to the office, and then went to community band practice after.
- 10/13/21 (Wed): I went to a dentist appt.
- 10/14/21 (Thu): Home all day.
- 10/15/21 (Fri): Did a hike with the dogs. Got take-out pizza.
- 10/16/21 (Sat): Had dinner outside at the Dockside Restaurant (York).
- 10/19/21 (Tue) Our Anniversary: Had dinner outside at the Union Bluff (York).

I took out the mundane from my calendar to share. But I even had work meetings in my calendar. My wife liked to know when I was busy. We each shared our iPhone calendars with each other.

She uses Google Calendar. She keeps trying to get me to use it. I reached a point where I won't use it, just because she keeps nagging me. I can't tell you how many times either it has fucked-up somehow, or she has fucked-up the entry, or forgot. I use the Notes app on my phone.

This was about 3 months after my conception.

It makes me happy to know that in March 1983 Hendrik came in my mom like a respectful gentleman and wasn't doing degenerate shit like finishing on the boobs or whatever.
